1. Introduction to LED Display

5. What is pixel?

• Pixel Definition：The smallest imaging unit of an LED display.
• Pixel is the element of an image, the smallest unit of an image or the smallest image frame. A pixel is a single point in a video image.

• The composition of pixels

Plug in lights﹣It means that the lamp pins of the DIP package lamp pass through the PCB board, and the tin is filled into the lamp hole through welding. The module made by this process is called a plug-in lamp module. Advantage：High brightness and good heat dissipation. Shortcoming: Low pixel density.

Surface Mount﹣Surface mount is also called SMD，the SMD packaged lamp is soldered to the surface of the PCB board through the welding process. The lamp pin does not need to pass through the PCB board. The module made by this process is called a surface mount module. Advantage：Good display effect, high pixel density, suitable for indoor viewing. Shortcoming: The brightness is not high enough and the heat dissipation of the lamp itself is not good enough.

Sub-surface Mount﹣Sub-surface mount is a product between DIP and SMD. The packaging surface of its LED lamp is the same as SMD, but its positive and negative pins are the same as DIP, and it is also soldered through the PCB during production. Advantage: High brightness, good display effect. Shortcoming: Complex process and difficult maintenance.

• Module Definition：The smallest display unit of an LED display is formed by a pixel matrix soldered on a PCB board composed of a certain number of LED lights, plus electronic components and kits.
