#FIA 2024 - new sustainable tech & leadership visibility recommendation

Welcome back to the JetZero.TV newsletter

Hello Again,

A key part of a sustainable future for aviation is electric powered aircraft and electric Vertical Take off and Landing aircraft (eVTOLs) were out in force at the Farnborough Airshow.

It makes sense that the helicopter industry would take an interest and Bristow CEO David Stepanek FRAeS is adamant that passenger carrying aircraft are subject to airline rules.

Embraer-X EVE and Bristow announced a partnership to develop UAM capabilities with an order of up to 100 eVTOLs. We had caught up with Dave Stepanek earlier in the year at Revolution.Aero to get his take on why stringent regulations are essential for these new aircraft. Here's a sneak preview of one of the videos for our new #jetzerotv channel.

Supernal showcased its SA2 and Lilium had constant activity at the full scale mock up of the Lilum Jet in the halls. Joby Aviation also brought its eVTOL, while the UK’s Vertical Aerospace displayed but did not fly its VX4 and Boeing WISK had a mock up of its autonomous vehicle on the static.

Boom Supersonic Supersonic showcased its new flightdeck and gave updates on its Symphony engine., while VoltAero and Reaction Engines brought their hybrid electro/hydrogen aircraft demonstrator and engine respectively to the show and the UK’s AIRLANDER LIMITED Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd exhibited its latest developments.

Fuelling a sustainable future

Boeing and Clear Sky, an investment company dedicated to aviation sustainability, joined forces to speed up sustainable aviation. As an initial project, the companies will help in testing and advancing Firefly Green Fuels ’ sewage to SAF tech to increase sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in the UK.

Firefly converts waste into biocrude oil and biochar, a fertilizer. Independent experts say that this kind of SAF reduces lifecycle CO? emissions by more than 90% compared to traditional JetA1.

Meanwhile Airbus also announced a SAF investment with LanzaJet which produces eco-friendly biofuels.

It's VITAL to have Video Visibility

There was so much to see and take in during a short space of time.

Key takeaways are that supply chain, support, talent and regulatory buy in are all essential as we evolve to a more sustainable future.

You know what we are going to say.

Clarity in messaging - appealing to visual learners (most of us) and educating important stakeholders are all essential ingredients in bringing a decarbonised future to fruition.

With so much to see, it’s disappointing to see so many videos of booth shots, and air displays. Don’t get us wrong - these are lovely and engaging and set the scene.

We’d ALSO like to see innovative interviews and storytelling so that the industry can engage with some of the people who can help us put the missing pieces in place.

A thought for you - add a solid informative leadership interview into your catalogue of video commissions next time you’re at a show.

People trust people who lead.

Till next time,

Liz

The #AAM companies are growing in size, along with their footprint at shows like Farnborough. Consolidation, financing and trusted technology partners will all have a big part to play in the next two years until FIA2026. Will it look the same then? Tier one and two OEM's still have years of collaboration and hard work before certification, safe operations and community acceptance are complete enough for electric aviation everyday travel. We are close though! #Aviation #Businessaviation Taylor Alberstadt David Shilliday
