Tech Talks: Insight & Execution #1

Regarding enterprise technology, what was once an exercise of "sipping from a fire hose" has now become a challenge of surviving the onslaught of a waterfall. This newsletter aims to foster a learning community to unlock technology's full potential. Overwhelming problems are best solved through outstanding collaboration.

Each edition will feature discussions on AI/AIOps, cybersecurity, private 5G, digital media, risk management, and market trends. I encourage you to share your perspectives. There is much for us to learn together.

AIOps

Solving API's Horizontal Headaches

Hughes Karthik Ganesuni describes how APIs may facilitate tech stack integration by establishing a common command language. Translate the commonality of declarative (the "what") tasks into imperative (the "how") commands. By normalizing the data, enterprises may visualize and manage the health of their entire infrastructure with a single pane of glass.

Cybersecurity

Netskope Michael Ferguson outlines the 7 million threats enterprises face in an hour and then describes how SASE solutions may be leveraged to augment today's next-generation firewalls.

Private 5G

Private 5G Refinery Use-Cases

Celona Pradhyum Ramkumar describes how refineries are stuck in the era of paper and pen. When you need coverage across entire football fields of heavy machinery, Wi-Fi is too expensive, complicated, and complex. Employees lose valuable time and productivity running back and forth between dead zones and connected spaces. With private 5G, the need for hundreds of Wi-Fi is reduced to less than a dozen. Employees will be able to remotely engage with subject matter experts at the site of the problem. IoT sensors may be leveraged anywhere needed to optimize operations and monitor safety conditions.

Fundamentals of Native 5G Cybersecurity Defense

Palo Alto Networks Mitch Rappard? describes the fundamentals of designing and a native 5G cybersecurity defense. Protect the mobile packet core with solutions that are aware of the private 5G protocol (3GPP, GTP, SCTP, etc.). Employ zero trust principles to applications, users, and devices. Automate orchestration and threat responses (e.g. SOAR). Leverage the appropriate tools to simplify 5G infrastructure management.

Digital Media

While it may be difficult for most to tell the difference between one screen and the next, enterprise users easily differentiate digital signage solutions based on the ease of use of their content management, operations, and cybersecurity because of the direct effect on their professional lives.

?

The more intuitive the content management system, the more people can contribute. The more intelligently automated the operations, the less cost incurred. The more robust the cybersecurity, the longer you will gain business value.?

Risk Management & Compliance

In this IFBTA (International Food and Beverage Technology Association) Webinar Five Guys Enterprises Zerrick Pearson and Karen Agostinho discuss the role of technology in managing risk.

Some key takeaways:

  • Scope of risk management focus: Legal, Financial, Regulatory, and Reputational
  • From legal to HR, Risk mgmt is a shared responsibility that must have clear accountability.
  • What data do you have? Where is it stored? Who are you sharing it with?
  • Pay particular attention to the rights of the consumer (e.g. right to be forgotten)
  • How are your partners using and protecting your customer's data?
  • What is monetizable? employee data, customer data, and credit card data

Industry Trends

Artificial intelligence (AI) is on the rise in retail. Brands have new tools to do almost everything, from improving the customer experience to analyzing shopper data for additional revenue opportunities. But retailers aren’t the only ones leveraging this technology in the commerce sphere. Cybercriminals are using AI to find new ways to exploit businesses. Regulators are also working to leverage AI’s capabilities to help stay ahead of emerging risks. Requirements around using AI to thwart ransomware and other attacks, and to maintain compliance in areas such as data privacy, continue to expand and evolve.

Some suggested actions to consider:

  • Comply with the new PCI DSS 4 standard. While compliance is not the same thing as security, the standard provides a framework for organizing your cyberstrategy.
  • Learn about the emerging data privacy laws. This past summer, Europe published the AI Act . California Assembly passed AI safety bill. While there is still significant confusion, the fines are significant. It is important to understand what decisions have been made and when they will be enforced.
  • Prepare for an AI-capable evolution of the organization. Change is coming. While it may be very uncomfortable, it can not be ignored.
