In this episode I am showcasing another guest who have graced my platform and shared their experience as a minister in the marketplace.
My guest is only the second ever special sergeant to have been recognised for his contribution to policing with The King's Police Medal (KPM). He was also for his contribution towards a fall in antisocial behaviour and crime in Dartford Kent. He was awarded Ferrers Special Constabulary individual award for connecting the police with church, mosque, communities and for inspiring others from under represented backgrounds to join the police
Mr. Opaleye is both a scientist and a special sergeant of the Kent police's special constabulary on a voluntary basis. In this episode he discussed his experience as a special constable with Kent Police for 25 years. He addressed common myths about police officers, such as lacking a sense of humor, emphasizing that police constables receive appropriate training for their roles.
Mr. Opaleye discussed the training and support provided to volunteer police constables, highlighting their preparedness to effectively carry out their roles. Diversity within the police force is addressed, mentioning efforts to address past issues of institutional racism and create a more inclusive and supportive environment.
The speaker reflects on their early experiences as a police constable about 20 years ago which relates to fitting in with a close-knit group and instances of racial insensitivity that were addressed. Positive changes within the police force over the years are highlighted, indicating a more inclusive and supportive environment. The importance of faith in coping with challenges faced as a volunteer police officer is discussed, along with the role of faith in influencing their approach to various situations.
The concept of stop and search was discussed, emphasizing that anyone, including police officers, has the right to stop and talk to someone on the road. The speaker advises on being respectful and compliant during a stop and search, ensuring that any search is recorded if necessary.
