Finding Myself While Caring for Others: Eloise’s Story
Centre 33 Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
Supporting young people in Cambridgeshire with their practical issues and emotional needs since 1981.
We often talk about resilience, balance, and the pressures young people face today, but for young adult carers like Eloise, these take on an entirely new meaning. Imagine navigating your own health, education, and friendships while also providing daily support for multiple family members with complex health needs. Many young carers find themselves isolated, handling adult responsibilities that are both rewarding and, at times, extremely overwhelming.
"I only found out young carers existed a year ago. It’s really quite a solitary experience because most people don’t know what that is and don’t really understand how all-encompassing it is."
Eloise’s Story
We are so proud to share Eloise’s story, which she has bravely allowed us to highlight in this short film. Eloise’s experience speaks to the unique challenges young adult carers face: fluctuating responsibilities, the struggle to make plans and the isolation that can come from managing the needs of others while trying to carve out a space for oneself.
In the video, Eloise shares her journey - finding strength, a sense of self, and finally, the support she needed through our services at Centre 33. Whether it's open-access drop-in sessions that require no appointment, counselling, or young carers' groups, Centre 33 provides a lifeline for young people like Eloise - a place where they will be listened to and supported, without judgement.

"Working with a Centre 33 counsellor is helping me separate myself from something I was very, very entangled with. And it’s just given me a better sense of self."
