Join us for another recap of the past few weeks as we reflect on what happened in December. As usual, there was a lot happening, and it was fantastic to see. So, let’s dive in!

COPE Business Leaders Sleep Out

On Friday, December 6, COPE Galway Business Leaders’ Sleep Out participants spent 12 hours on the streets of Galway City. The aim was to draw attention to the issue of homelessness in Galway, to generate an understanding of what it is to sleep out on the streets in winter and to raise essential funds to make sure the charity can continue to respond to these challenges and offer vital supports for people who find themselves affected by homelessness.?

With homelessness intensifying across the country, the local charity has described this winter as being especially challenging in Galway. ‘The homelessness crisis is not letting up unfortunately,’ said Sinead Carey, COPE Galway’s Head of Homeless Service. ?‘This is most starkly illustrated by our accommodation services being consistently full and a more than doubling of the numbers of people availing of our day centre and outreach services. We are providing approximately 50 people with food and other essential supports daily.’?

Jameson & Ginger for Darts Fans

?With the popularity of Darts exploding over recent times the anticipation of the PDC World Darts Championship was fever pitch in An Pucan in December. As the home of Sport in Galway we wanted to make the viewing experience as close to being in Ally Pally as possible so together with our friends Jameson we collaborated on a fantastic offer. For every 9 darter in the competition we offered a free drink to everyone that was watching the darts. With Christian Kist and Damon Heta achieving the epic feat our customers certainly had a great Christmas in An Pucan.

M Fitzgeralds Christmas Sandwich

The?Christmas?Sandwich?returned to M Fitzgerald’s Bar in December. This year’s?Christmas?Sandwich?was a masterpiece which included

  • Toasted Sourdough
  • Succulent Roast Turkey
  • Honey Roast Ham
  • Savory Onion Stuffing
  • Sweet Cranberry Sauce
  • Melted Brie

Paired with a rich side of?onion gravy?for dipping and served alongside a generous portion of crispy fries, this hearty?sandwich?is the perfect festive indulgence. It was an irresistible way to get into the holiday spirit. Whether you’re catching up with friends, taking a well-earned lunch break, or treating yourself after a day of?Christmas?shopping, we are already dreming of next years version.
