Following our hybrid Doing Good Index 2024 Launch Event on June 11th, the CAPS team has been busy sharing our?findings and engaging with local partners in multiple events in the region.
In Seoul, our Director of Research, Annelotte Walsh and I were hosted by The Beautiful Foundation and led an interactive capacity-building workshop on strategy and leadership. Additionally, we presented the key findings at the American Diplomacy House in Seoul, sparking a lively discussion among nonprofit leaders.?
Meanwhile, in Kuala Lumpur, our Senior Advisor, Kithmina Hewage hosted by the Youth Trust Foundation - myHarapan , spoke at the Social Enterprise Malaysia Amplifying Impact Summit (SEMAI Summit) 2024. This event, organized by Purpose Malaysia and the Chamber of Social Entrepreneur Development (CSED) Malaysia , attracted government officials, funders, social enterprise founders, and other stakeholders.
Furthermore, Annelotte Walsh shared the Doing Good Index 2024 findings for Indonesia during a webinar held by the PIRAC | Public Interest Research and Advocacy Center in Indonesia. The presentation was followed by an engaging panel discussion with government officials, social sector leaders and private sector representatives.?

Doing Good: The Latest in Asia
India's logistics tycoon, Allcargo Group Chairman Shashi Kiran Shetty , donates 3% of his shares worth Rs 180crore (US$21.56 million) to the Group’s CSR arm - Avashya Foundation. The transfer will help the Foundation scale up its existing philanthropic activities in the areas of education, healthcare and environmental sustainability in various regions in India.?Read more here.
The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives recently introduced a new social enterprise accreditation level, the Aspiring Social Enterprise. Accredited social enterprises can apply for tax benefits and gain SEWF double-badge verification, enhancing their global visibility. Learn more about this initiative here.
The Furusato nÅzei ("hometown tax") system in Japan allows taxpayers to make tax-deductible donations to rural municipalities. In an attempt to attract donations, municipalities—often through intermediary sites—offer local gifts to donors. However, due to intense competition and aggressive marketing by such intermediary sites, the government has announced that donations collected by intermediaries will no longer be tax-deductible. Taiwan FamilyMart Co.,Ltd. and NGO One-Forty introduced multilingual signs in over 4,200 stores to help Southeast Asian migrants with common tasks like sending remittances and packages. Users can also make donations to the NGO through FamilyMart’s app to fund educational videos. Read more about this initiative addressing communication challenges here.
The Centre for Development Innovation and Practices - CDIP , an NGO supporting the socio-economic development of disadvantaged people, plans to extend its microfinance services by raising Tk171 crore (US$14.56 million) through its 1st Zero-Coupon Bond. Raised funds will support microcredit and small and medium enterprises. Read more here about how this NGO is trying to diversify its funding sources.
