The month of June that passed had many red weeks in it for all Crypto assets in the web3 industry. But…

Guess what???

Those red weeks and days were important for the move of $BTC and the general Crypto market entirely.

Why did I say that you may ask?

In Crypto, there are always the days of ups (greens ??) and there are the days of downs (red ??) just like we have it in all situations of life.

It was necessary for the $BTC to do a major correction down to the lows of around $59k downward last week so we can continue to move up.

For the past few weeks, Bitcoin surged up more than $70k in price, so...

A good leg down it made recently is healthy for the general Crypto market.

So, what does all that mean?

It means, if you're a beginner in the Crypto space or even an OG investor...

It's a good time in Crypto for you.

So, stay positioned and relax your muscles!

Bitcoin isn't crashing or going to zero!

Now that I've given you a brief overview of the general market,

Let me explain some important things you need to know about Crypto to you.

I would like to show you and answer those questions as well. Because…

I know you might have the same questions on your mind.

These answers will do justice to them and give you clarity.

The Question and Answer Session

Question 1: Blockchain is a database where all Crypto transactions are stored....does that mean there's only one Blockchain?

My Answer: NO! Blockchain is truly a database where all Crypto/Web3 transactions are stored but…

There are many Blockchains already that have been existing since Bitcoin Blockchain came to live in 2009.

Ethereum Blockchain came after Bitcoin and now we have different Blockchains today like Solana, Binance Smart Chain (BSC), Polygon Blockchain, Tron Blockchain, Viction Blockchain (more on this later) etc.

The important thing to note here is that;

If your friend wants to send you money on the SOLANA Blockchain,

You must copy a Solana wallet address and send it to your friend to send the money to.

If you copy another wallet address say; Ethereum or Tron wallet address, the funds will be lost.

So, each Blockchain stores their own assets (or transactions) and not the assets of other Blockchains.

Question 2: What's the difference between an Exchange and Wallet?

My Answer: We have 2 types of Exchanges.

1. Centralized Exchanges (CEXes)

2. Decentralized Exchanges (DEXes)

Centralized Exchanges (CEXes):

They are platforms like our traditional banks that help you keep your money (Crypto assets) with them because they have the security keys (private keys/password) to your account.

So, with a CEX, you don't have to worry about the safety of your funds because it's in their custody.

There's a slang we use in Crypto regarding that, we say;

FUNDS ARE SAFU which means your funds (money) is safe with a genuine Centralized exchange.

Now to the second one…

Decentralized Exchanges (DEXes);

Decentralized exchanges provide the same services that any centralized exchanges provide but…

The only difference here is that,

A DEX gives you the opportunity to use their services without having any power over your money.

They don't control the security of your money, your money will be in your Self-custodial wallet like Metamask, Trust Wallet etc.

This means, to access the service of any Decentralized exchange...

You need to connect your wallet that has funds to the DEX and use their services.

You can decide to withdraw your money from the platform any time you want, disconnect your wallet and still enjoy their services another day.?

One of the main advantages of a Decentralized exchange over a Centralized exchange is that…

A DEX doesn't enforce that you do what we call KYC (Know Your Customer) but...

If you're on a CEX, it's necessary to do your KYC in order to comply with the local laws of that country.

Now, let's talk about the Wallet part of the question, next…

The Crypto Wallet Discussion

Wallets are also in two types just like we talked about Exchanges.

Centralized wallets are called the Custodial wallets while…

Decentralized wallets are called the Non-custodial (or Self-Custodial) wallets.

With a custodial wallet, you don't have full control over your money because...

The centralized exchange can freeze your account especially if you violate one of their rules.

Why?

It's simple, because they own the private keys to your wallet.

This is why we say in Crypto;

"Not your keys, not your money!"

If you don't own the private keys to your Crypto wallets then the money doesn't really belong to you.

On the other hand…

Non-Custodial wallets are wallets like Metamask, Trust Wallet, Bitget wallet etc.

These wallets give you the opportunity to own your assets personally because...

You have access to your Private Keys that are also known as your main password to your wallet.

These Private Keys must only be known by you - That's why it's called private keys.

If it's seen by another person, then your account might be compromised and your money can be at risk of theft.

These are just a few of the questions some of my students that are beginners in the Crypto space asked me recently.
