Coppa Club, Sonning-on-Thames

Breezefree were approached by the client 3 years ago for some design ideas that would maximise the potential of this exposed raised terrace in a unique north-west facing location adjoining a listed building.

Overlooking the River Thames by Sonning Bridge, Reading, this accessible and popular destination was visited by our MD Will Lisle, one of our project managers Andy Tidyman and one of our designers Maria Cobo, to understand the existing arrangement and get a feel for what would be appropriate in readiness to progress design discussions with the client.?

Schemes were developed to meet a range of budgets starting with flat retractable roofs and finishing with a combination of retractable double pitched and flat roofs with glazing whereupon, planning was progressed by the client’s consultant.?

After a detailed and demanding tender process, Breezefree were appointed principle contractor and commenced working drawings, manufacture, site set-up and installation.

Given a very tight 8 week programme from order to completion, including 3 weeks on site, all proceeded to budget to be handed over on time by our smiling crew to a smiling client.

In the late nineties pergola awnings were hardly known in the UK, now they are often the retractable roof of choice. Since then, the conventional pitched roof design has evolved to flat, vaulted and radiused designs and the newly refurbished?alfresco space for Coppa Club at Sonning utilises flat and double pitched designs.?

For those who’ve known and worked with us since we started out almost 20 years ago, we’ve come a long way since our first project as principle contractor in 2004 for JD Wetherspoon at The Atrium, NEC, Birmingham.
