If you watched the super bowl over the week-end, you may have noticed that amongst the APALLINGLY bad ads this year (NO - I DON'T WANT TO SHOP LIKE A BILLIONAIRE!), there was one quiet spot for Microsoft's Copilot. The ad itself had mixed reviews but resulted in an 'everyday AI companion' going mainstream.
Since the ad aired, the Copilot app has topped the charts for both iPhone and Android, signaling that the masses are interested and ready for their AI assistant.
I believe we're at an inflection point.
Can you remember when exactly we went from reading actual maps to allowing our phones to take over the navigating?
If you're under the age of about 40 you have no idea what I'm even talking about. Well, try and stay with me here. I was really good at reading maps. I enjoyed using a map to help me find places, it was a skill I had mastered, and it provided value to others. Even after many had made the switch to simply using their smartphone to provide directions, I preferred to do the navigating myself. Eventually I was forced to make the switch as it became challenging to even find printed maps.
Today, we have all developed a set of skills to navigate the internet. We do it REALLY well. We have mastered this skill in order to thrive at work or at school and in our personal life. However, the advent of an everyday AI companion like Copilot takes this navigation out of our hands and requires an entirely new set of skills to master. You may resist turning your life over to the AI machine but eventually, in just a few short generations, that will be the ONLY way to interface with technology and the internet.
After downloading and using Copilot Pro on my iPhone for just a few minutes, I realized that this would fundamentally change marketing forever. No, it's not perfect - YET - but this is the worst it will ever be, and it will just keep getting better and better. Paying $20 bucks per month to gain access to these ground-breaking tools is such a small price to pay to witness history unfolding right before our eyes. I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Featured Friend of the XR Pub Crawl: Claire Weingarten
I first met Claire, I believe, at one of my first XR Pub Crawl events over a year ago. I had just started hosting the virtual, monthly event for a small group of eager and enthusiastic marketers looking to leverage the power of emerging technologies. What is your area of expertise?
Visual?media has long been an area of expertise for me, and with?bachelor's and master's degrees in cinema studies, my professional life has spanned a number of arts-related?fields–film, streaming video, journalism and social media programming. Several years ago, my passion and expertise evolved beyond video-based media to also include immersive experiences and emerging technologies that are creating entirely new channels of communication.
Why are you interested in XR and AI for marketing and communications?
I believe emerging technologies like XR and AI can be instrumental in creating the most meaningful immersive experiences marketers and communicators are able to design for audiences. We have not yet scratched the surface of what these experiential marketing tools are capable of inspiring in audiences who can be transformed by meaningful interactions with brands–interactions that are not possible with more traditional marketing methods.
What are your career aspirations? What do you want to be when you grow up?
I don’t know that I can point to one exact role, however I know it’s vital for me to always be exploring new frontiers in emerging?story-telling mediums,?experiential communication and?immersive engagements.
