Copilot+ PCs by Microsoft - why is the World talking about them?

So far, computers, laptops, desktops and mobile have essentially been a tool that has been the entry point from a digital expression standpoint. However, that's about to change! The recent launch of Copilot+ PCs at Microsoft Build has unleashed almost a new era of computing. Below are the top highlights that have captured my interest:

1. New Category of Windows PCs: They introduced these as Copilot+ PCs, designed specifically for AI. To me, this heralds the beginning of a new category of devices that are purpose-built for AI. This means that AI will no longer be only in the cloud but will also be available offline.
2. Powerful Silicon: Equipped with new silicon capable of over 40+ TOPS (trillion operations per second), these PCs offer unprecedented computing power. Having been exposed to AI for more than 18 months now, one thing is clear. AI is computationally expensive. However, if the local device is AI ready, some of that computational power can be handled locally. I can almost imagine an LLM sitting on the PC going forward. Increased computational power translates to faster processing, enabling more complex tasks and enhancing overall productivity.
3. All-Day Battery Life: Say goodbye to frequent recharges, even with a huge GPU sitting on the local machine! These PCs promise all-day battery life, ensuring uninterrupted productivity.
4. Advanced AI Models Access: Microsoft promised direct access to the most advanced AI models enhances the capabilities of these PCs, making them more powerful and versatile. Leveraging cutting-edge AI models will streamline our workflows, automate mundane tasks, and unlock new possibilities in various fields.
5. Recall Feature: Easily find and remember content on your PC with the Recall feature, which allows for natural language searches. A real game-changer for efficiency! This feature simplifies information retrieval, saving time and reducing the frustration of searching for files, boosting our productivity. Of course, privacy is another matter and an important one but it would be very interesting to figure the utility of this feature.
6. Cocreator in Paint: Generate and refine AI images in near-real-time directly on the device using Cocreator, a boon for creative professionals. Creative projects, I think, will become more efficient and innovative, as AI-assisted design tools offer new ways to visualize and create.
7. Live Captions and Translation: Bridge language barriers with Live Captions, translating audio from over 40 languages into English. Inclusivity at its best! Enhanced communication across languages will foster better collaboration and understanding in diverse teams and global interactions.
8. Reimagined PC Experience: The entire PC experience, from silicon to the cloud, has been reimagined with AI at the centre, marking a significant shift in the Windows platform. A holistic reimagining of the PC experience means smoother, more integrated workflows, enhancing how we interact with our devices on a daily basis.

Overall, I feel, Microsoft has certainly defined what their cutting edge will mean over the next few years! It is clear that this will help so many companies deliver incredible solutions! I can imagine both Chromebooks and MacBooks responding with something similar pretty soon too. As an edtech/ marketing professional, I feel knowledge will get democratised in a big way and it should be a massive boon for countries like India going forward.
