COP29 2024 (my humble opinion)

Regarding COP29, my personal experiences on sustainability and climate change start with us… yes, with us. We can work to be more respectful of the environment, and that's fine, think about how to pollute less, about the blind economy, about recycling and new research for the future. Obviously, at the same time we realize that even if we make an effort at home, even with reckless and improbable choices, we see that there are many countries that do not use waste recycling, composting, or waste-to-energy… It's not their fault. They do not know what damage they are causing and they think as they did fifty years ago. What can be done? First of all, "ecological culture" is the missing part. What kind of world will we leave to our children? We read so much information in the newspapers that we are accustomed to it: "to make an electric car we produce more ecological damage than if we drove around for 20 years with a diesel tractor" or similar... Personally I would include the subject in schools, in order to educate the very young to responsibility for a better future. In turn they could educate their parents and friends to a correct education. Maybe something would change... but it doesn't end here. I live mainly in Europe, but when I travel around the world I see how in some countries this is a sign of respect for people, while in others, usually poorer countries with few resources, this doesn't happen. People still burn garbage in their backyards, but they don't realize that they also burn materials that didn't exist in their country in the 40s and 50s, like plastic. They produce dioxin fumes and other pollutants… they burn the fields after the harvest and are convinced that the ash fertilizes the soil better, while perhaps at home, their children discover they have diseases such as asthma or worse… tumors. No one takes it upon themselves to explain to others, except with conferences such as COP29 or similar, without imagining that the regulations that these meetings will require in the future will only be a “penalty” to be paid to the countries that “buy Carbon Fees” right in their territories and perhaps even speculate on them. This is my humble opinion. I personally try to act with conscience, but it is enough to have the opportunity to travel the world to understand the truth. Those who have never left the borders of their own nation will never understand what is really happening and, personally, I would not like to be represented by similar individuals, who “pontificate” without having the slightest idea of what is really happening. Solution? Who knows? Technologies, research, education... you choose!
