As COP27 draws towards its close and traditional anti-climax – A RAY of SUNSHINE as an undeniable message for all of humanity …..

In early 2020, NASA and the Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory released the above remastered image taken by the Voyager satellite just prior to its ‘shut-down’ as it left our solar system.

Many issues face the future well-being of humanity, but possibly few more so than our ability to meet our collective future energy needs. Here, increased Gross National Products and improved social development and well-being are integral elements of this future. However, this requirement needs to be undertaken without overly polluting or destroying our living space. As illustrated above, we are continuously bathed in the warmth of our Sun. An energy-mix increasingly underwritten by well-managed solar energy can meet this need. A pre-occupation with near-term profits can place this laudable goal at risk. Thus, focus is required on long-term reliability and sustainability of solar assets. Adoption of ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) guidelines can assist both private and public sector decision-makers in this process.??

??Our future is likely to depend upon the warmth from the Sun, so let us exploit it well and maximally ?

The image accompanying this article is in my view one of the greatest photographs ever taken and very clearly demonstrates our place in the Universe. Its history is equally remarkable. For those interested, may I recommend the following good reads:
