??Commonwealth Supported Places for Organisational Psychology programs

As some of you may be aware, the APS and the College of Organisational Psychologists have been working hard for the last few years to remove the inequities in funding for post-graduate psychology education. To read more please check the announcement out here.

In the meantime, we would like to thank all those involved to date, particularly the Organisational Psychology Course Directors and the Heads of Department and School of Psychology Association (HODSPA) and Diya R. Dey from the College of Organisational Psychologists, APS , for all their work in getting us to this point. This truly has been a collaborative effort, which will hopefully result in the changes we are seeking coming to fruition in 2025.

??APS Members Leadership Group

On 9 October we were involved in the first meeting of the APS Members Leadership Group. This is the meeting that will take place every quarter where it is just the College Chairs (plus DPP and DPRET Co-ordinators) and the President and CEO. This is something that has been discussed at length over the last 9 months and now these regular meetings are in the calendar for the next 12 months. The aim of these new meetings between the APS leadership and all colleges and divisions is to engage in discussion about 2-3 key areas of importance that impact all members across the APS. The agenda is set by the College Chairs group (now called APS Members Leadership Group) and not by the CEO or President. Therefore, the points we discuss are key needs we believe the members have. This format allowed us to have very good discussion about a couple of important matters and everyone had time to have their say and input. The summary of the conversation and a few key actions and agreements are outlined below.

  1. The APS Members Leadership Group will play an advisory role to the APS Board in regard to the APS strategy and planning and in communication and engagement with our members. We will meet during the Festival of Psychology next year to implement this new approach as a first step. Further discussions about the role this group can and will play with respect to the APS strategy and implementation will be had over the coming months;
  2. This group will play a stronger collective role in advocacy, working more closely with the APS CEO and President with media and/or government;
  3. This group will play an important role in the implementation of the new Consultation Policy; once feedback has been received on this policy (it is currently out for review and feedback by members) the Consultation Taskforce will reconvene and develop an implementation plan and the APS Members Leadership Group will then discuss and agree on the role they will play in the implementation of the policy so that real change is realised for all members.

?? APS Consultation Update

The APS Consultation Policy has been approved by the Board and has recently been sent out for consultation with all members. We will have 6 weeks for consultation on this draft Consultation Policy and then the Taskforce will reconvene to consider implementation issues and planning.

??Reward and Recognition

The previous reward and recognition program has been modified based on feedback from a survey. All committee members (and there are about 830 committee members across Australia including State Committees) will receive 25% off their membership fees (to be given in the following year after 12 months of committee service) and 50% off all APS PD activities (excluding supervision programs).

A Post Implementation Review will be conducted in 12 months to assess the effectiveness of this. The APS has asked for feedback from members before finalising this.

??Member Group Funding

This is the big one. The APS has listened and made major changes to make our lives much easier as College Committee members.

They are proposing:

  • removal of need for activity plans and spreadsheets - a new simple one-page word document will be used for activities
  • increased financial allocations for all colleges - we will be given $30,000 instead of the $5,000 we currently have
  • all colleges can carry over funding from one year to the next - with a maximum of $100,000 carry over

There will be a 6-week consultation period for these changes and then it will be finalised.

?? Learning Resources Project Update

The Learning Resources project continues to make good progress. Max Baillie, a placement student from UQ, has joined the team to help with the implementation stage.? Following feedback from interviews and surveys, the 11 identified practice areas for resource development have been organised by priority. Among the first areas for us to work on are?Preventing Workplace Stress and Psychosocial Hazards, and?Enhancing Workplace Culture, Employee Engagement, Respect, Inclusion, and Well-being.? We have also been reviewing and integrating the feedback that we got on the description of the practice areas and considering how they align with our Endorsement competencies.

Another step is working with the APS to secure funding so that we when invite contributions of expertise from members we can also provide some recompense for the time involved.

If you are interested in contributing or sharing resources to support the project, please reach out to Tracy at?[email protected]?or Max at?[email protected].? Keep an eye out for posts on PsyCommunity also.
