COP 26: the missing ingredient!

It has been the top news item for many countries over the past 2 weeks: the UN Climate talks being held in Glasgow.?I’ve been fascinated at how, suddenly, Climate Change has moved to the top of the political agenda. We’ve seen and heard many nations commit to seemingly dramatic changes in a bid to save Planet Earth from extinction.?Many of the commitments given have very aggressive timelines and it will be very interesting to see how these decisions are honoured as the next few years come and go.?

Personally I believe that all the targets set in Glasgow will not only be met but will be achieved well within the timetable set by each country.?You only have to look at our roads and streets to see how quickly electric vehicles are appearing at a rate well ahead of motor manufacturers projections. Many people are changing to charging because of the belief that ‘zero emissions’ is good for Planet Earth.?They are of course correct, and this dramatic change will spread to all aspects of waste, pollution and over production.?We will adapt to the changes that are going to happen, because we want a liveable, breathable Planet Earth.?The fact that there is no alternative other than to change is probably not too far in the back of our mind either!

However, I am fearful that we’re going to end up with a beautifully rejuvenated Planet Earth that is still on track for destruction because of one critically important element; an element that is so strong it can change the future, a future we simply won’t have without it: Love.?

When we achieve all our Climate Change targets, we will still possess the means to annihilate not just ourselves but Planet Earth itself.?Think of the arsenals of nuclear weapons spread across the world, primed and ready for what - to blow each other off the face of Planet Earth??And who will survive that nuclear winter??

But if we have Love we can stop this before it happens.?What is the point in recovering our beautiful Planet Earth if we can’t live together, side by side in Peace? ?We simply must Love each other if we want to stay alive.?We must respect each other if we want to have a legacy of a beautiful Planet Earth for our children and generations to come.?Without Love there will be no generations after ours; there will be no future.?

Love doesn’t cost anything but it brings riches we can’t even begin to imagine.?It may sound twee, and I’m probably na?ve, but Love is bigger than all the things we possess, all the things we think are worth fighting for, all the things that in the end are worthless if we destroy our beautiful home, our beautiful Planet Earth.?

So I say we must Love each other!?Our beautiful Planet Earth will be so much more beautiful with the threat of annihilation removed. ?When we Love each other we improve our health, this is a fact!?When we give rather than take we are acting out of Love.?When we listen without interruption, when we acknowledge each other – we are acting out of Love.?And when we put our own needs aside to take care of those less fortunate than ourselves, we are acting out of Love.?

Love is the one thing every person on Planet Earth has the ability to convey.?Planet Earth is our home, your home, their home.?The missing ingredient is simply…Love!
