Cooperation, connection & culture: What teamworkshops can do for your team

How can team leads ensure connection, trust and transparency among their team members in times of home office and remote working? Last year, we started organising regular team workshops on the topics of “cooperation”, “connection” and “corporate culture” at Kaufland e-commerce, which help the team leads and their teams master these challenges.

What are the benefits of team workshops?

Team workshops represent a critical component of people development and commitment in companies. They not only promote cooperation and communication within the team, but also contribute to the targeted development of individual strengths and skills as well as promoting corporate culture. In a dynamic working world where changes and challenges are part of everyday life, these workshops offer a valuable platform for developing creative solutions and solidifying trust among the team members. By sharing ideas and experiences, employees can learn from and inspire each other, leading to greater motivation and an improved work atmosphere. Ultimately, effective team workshops make a decisive contribution to increasing overall team performance, achieving corporate goals and engaging with the corporate culture in a new way.

How are the team workshops organised at Kaufland e-commerce?

Our People Development team develops the team workshops individually and adapts them to the specific needs of the respective team. It doesn’t matter whether the team comprises five or 30 people. The important thing is that the workshops are enjoyable and that the team leaves the day with clear results and objectives. The workshops usually last around half a day, during which the entire team works together on the topics. The team workshops are usually held in person at one of our office locations, but a remote setting is also possible. Thanks to the customised approach when planning and conducting the workshops, the People Development team can meet the different requirements of the teams and ensure that every participant is actively involved.

Who conducts the team workshops?

The workshops are led by our experienced People Development team. These trainers and moderators have extensive experience in carrying out these types of workshops. The initiative to conduct a workshop usually comes from the respective team leader or arises from conversations between the team leaders and HR business partners. “Of course the success of the team workshops spreads around the company – interest in them is constantly growing,” explains Joyce, who is part of our People Development and the initial point of contact for the programme.

The workshops are designed so that the team members actively work on the topics instead of just passively receiving knowledge from the trainer. Instead of a lecture from the front of the room, the team members work together on relevant topics, define future to-dos and action items or look for solutions to various challenges. The trainers provide impetus and guide the team through the day in such a way that everyone leaves the workshop satisfied and with a feeling of accomplishment. However, the input and output come from the team itself.

What is the goal of the team workshops at Kaufland e-commerce?

The workshops highlight how learning and improved collaboration, as well as overcoming challenges together, can take place in a creative, motivating and, above all, fun way. They create an inspiring atmosphere in which team members not only expand their skills, but also laugh and grow together.

This is what Caro, Head of Seller Support, has to say about the team workshops:

"In June we had the opportunity to take part in a day-long team workshop that was organised and led by two of our excellent colleagues from People Development. The topic was how we integrate our Company Principles into our day-to-day work and what qualities characterise us as a team.

The workshop was great fun for all of us and brought us closer together on several levels. Despite the remote set-up of our team, we all came together in Cologne to look at our work from new perspectives and learnt a lot about ourselves and our colleagues. Everyone on the team made a valuable contribution, not only through their expertise, but also through bringing their individual personalities to the table, which is crucial to making our team what it is – and what I value so much.

The workshop was not only a great team-building exercise, it also showed us that our company principles don’t just exist on paper, but that each and every one of us lives by them and thereby contributes to advancing our company with their expertise."
