Cooling Down The Summer Stress

Cooling Down The Summer Stress

Alexa,

Play That Summer Feeling by Jonathan Richman.

Remember the days when playing cricket in the afternoon didn't give us the heat strokes? The days when we were hungry all summer for mangoes. The days when those lemonades felt like heaven.

Well, gone are those days now!

Hello Friends,

It would be stupid of me asking – how's summer treating you? All we can talk about is the heat and humidity. Why in the world, the days are so long? Why am I not hungry anymore? When will I have a peaceful, deep sleep?

It's not just you going through these things. Summer does put all of us in a tough spot. While most of us got summer vacations for more than 20 years of our lives, now we understand how blessed we all were. Now, it takes five rounds of approval to have one week off at the job! Hahaha! ?

By the way, it's not just the physical health that we need to take care of in the summer. The high temperature can make us uncomfortable, altering our routine days. Nausea and fatigue can even lead to anxiety and panic attacks. You see, having watermelon and sugarcane juices just won't be enough.

The Summer Stress

As you hear Summer, it gives you that sunny feeling, right? Vast clean sky, sunglasses on, ample amount of Vitamin D! God? Who doesn't like this? Well, many of us do, but it can be overwhelming sometimes.

  • During the summer, your body's melatonin levels change, one of the primary hormones that helps regulate your sleep cycle. The changes in melatonin can make it harder to sleep well.
  • The humidity in summer weather can also cause dizziness and dehydration. For some people, feeling dizzy or dehydrated reminds them of past panic attacks they have experienced. This can increase their fear and anxiety levels.
  • We have discussed seasonal affective disorder (SAD) in our previous editions. But it's summer, not winter! However, around 10% of people experience SAD in summer days. Common symptoms of summer depression include loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, unintended weight loss, and feelings of anxiety.

Told you, it's not the same for everyone. But everyone deserves a good summer, right? Well, we might have some tips apart from drinking water and applying sunscreen.

How To Cool Down The Summer Stress?

  • First and foremost, go out! Yes, summer could be hot outside but it can be happening, too. Let's not isolate ourselves throughout the season. Early morning, later evening, jogging, badminton, gardening? Tag along your friends.
  • A healthy diet and a good sleep cycle can help you feel better. Let's make a plan and stick to it. Listen to me! 8 hours it is. A peaceful, sweet – eight hours!
  • It's okay not to have a vacation. But take some time off from work and have a staycation. Relax and do nothing. Don't beat yourself while doing nothing, though. Cause they say, doing nothing is often not relaxing!
  • Don't be hard on yourself. Protect yourself from the overwhelming season and events happening around. It's okay if you didn't join the party your friends threw last weekend. It's okay if you didn't invite your office friends to your birthday. It is okay!

On that note, we will wrap up this edition. However, stay in touch. Because...

Take care of yourself and the people around you,

I shall see you soon
