Cool Tools and Interesting Finds

We're back with another LinkedIn newsletter and this time, as promised, we'll be sharing a cool things we found around the web to amplify the innovation within the XR community and the tech community overall.

HOLOLENS 2 AND USING MIXED REALITY FOR AIRCRAFTS: WHERE IS THIS TECH GOING?

A few days ago we came across this video on Reddit. How can mixed reality be used in an impactful and helpful way when learning about specific machinery or to visualise the internal parts of something (like an aircraft) that can't be seen or opened up to be seen? This is a very good example. Although not perfect, it shows great potential and demonstrates a very well established use case for MR.

REDDIT'S NEW COLLECTIBLE AVATARS: ARE THEY NFTS? SHOULD WE EVEN DROP THE NAME?

NFTs really gained some bad press in the last few months, so it's not surprising that Reddit decided to drop the name and simply let users focus on the added feature and bonus personalisation their collectible avatars add to the Reddit experience.

We actually heard a great argument about this: do you call music .mp3? Or videos .mp4? You might in some contexts, especially technical ones, but in the mainstream and everyday language there is no reason to complicate experiences, so we usually find the closest most adaptable word to describe what we mean.

We welcome new ideas and discussions, so let us know below if you disagree with us!

NEW COOL TOOL "SCRIBE": SCREEN RECORDING AND... KNOWLEDGE BASE ARTICLES?

We first came across Scribe in a TikTok. There it was described as a great way to show a co-worker asynchronously steps or onboarding points. However, we discovered a possibly unusual way to use it. Since Scribe records and creates screenshots of all the steps of a specific browser activity - through a Chrome extension - it can also be used as a starting point for knowledge base articles in tech and software.

Check this one out we created as an example!

COLOUR PICKER CHROME EXTENSION: A SPECIFIC SOLUTION FOR A SPECIFIC PROBLEM

Do you ever scroll the internet or look at an image online and wish you knew exactly the colour code for that so you can re-use it? This might be a very niche problem, we're aware.

If that is you though, this Chrome extension might be a good solution for you. We've been using it for a couple of weeks now and although the cursor becomes a bit too sensitive to certain movement to find the right colour, especially on a larger image, it still does the job.
