Why do people play it safe?
It’s a little thing called the comfort zone that we just can’t get enough of. A time where we play it safe, but is that really living? We have to break out of our shells and start getting uncomfortable. Anxiety in small doses is natural and to some extent, healthy. If you go through life taking the easy way out and always using shortcuts, you’ll never know what opportunities you might have missed out on or the people you could have met.
When I look back on the choices I’ve made throughout the years, I ask myself, “was that the easy thing to do or the route that challenged me to reach my fullest potential and ultimately lead me to greatness?”. I know how hard it is to feel like you’re not going anywhere, but if you can bust through these feelings, you can and will achieve great things. Growing up in the Bronx, with my mom who oftentimes felt uncomfortable with the challenges that life presented, I could tell that she was always taking “the road not taken”, as Robert Frost would suggest. Looking back, I realize that all of the anxieties she must have faced, she faced for me and my brother. She taught me how to be myself, push through the tough times, sometimes get emotional, and overcome and triumph through adversity.
Life is easy, but living is hard. Look deep inside yourself and decide if you’re happy living in your comfort zone. Change your language, take the plunge. Jump off the deep end, without the life preserver (but make sure you have a friend nearby, if need be). The worst that can happen is a lifeguard will have to rescue you. You got this!
Helping people lights a fire within me. Connecting cottage owners + guests and now buyers + sellers too. Never thought I would return to school, but that is what I did. We can all do hard things...choices!

7 年So true. It's like asking someone to cross their arms differently than they are used to. It just doesn't feel right. A mentor of mine once told me that when managing teams of people you should always "comfort the disturbed and disturb the comforted". My message here is to always be changing it up and challenging yourself as that is the only way to realize your full potential in life. I say the same to my 4 children on a regular basis and it has had a marked impact on their development!
