A Cool Opportunity for Women. . .

A Cool Opportunity for Women. . .

Dear Colleagues,

Literally, not a day goes by where I don't pull myself out of the pitfalls of what I call patriarchal conflict conditioning. That statement is not anti-men, but rather a reflection on a social structure that no longer serves women, men, humans, our planet.

Some of the conflict pitfalls for women that I am referring to are:

-- thinking win-lose/zero-sum,

--conflict avoidance when it's not useful,

--the "tyranny of the kind and nice",

--fear of taking on aggressive negotiators, bullies or the current power structure,

--anorexic thinking obstructing my ability to claim value,

--stress over bargaining,

--confidence in finding my voice,

--saying No,--stating clearly what I want,

--being bold about negotiating post-patriarchal workplaces with all that that entails,

--modeling true partnership and collaboration in my intimate relationships.

I feel proud when I walk the talk of a powerful collaborative woman and model that in my personal and professional life.

The more women everywhere are doing just that the more we will change the world.

So, I wanted you to know that

Women, Negotiation and Power: Level 1

is open for enrollment, with the doors closing at midnight on Thursday.

There’s a saying 'don’t sweat the small stuff'. But when we negotiate the small stuff well, we negotiate the big stuff well too. The world is often in a sentence.

Women accommodate and defer at our peril. Having needs, meeting our needs, advocating for our needs at home, at work and in the world is what the world needs right now to re-balance itself.

I saw some powerful data recently from the not-for-profit Council on Foreign Relations:

  • Including women at the peace table produces better outcomes but women are often excluded.
  • Between 1992-2019, women constituted on average 13% of negotiators, 6% of mediators, & 6% of signatories in major peace processes worldwide
  • A growing body of research is showing how including women in negotiation processes greatly contributes to more peace and stability in the world

Negotiation, as you know, is not just managing a bargaining range. It goes to the core of influence, voice & power.

This seven-week Level 1 course gives women an opportunity to explore a broad range of ideas and skill sets in the community of women. As always, the aim is to strengthen participants' negotiation capacity, no matter what stage of the game, and support them in creating more of what they want in the world.

The course is rich with videos, relevant movies and articles, negotiation simulations, exercises and games with other participants to reenforce the concepts, one-on-one coaching when you complete the modules, access to our world-renowned AEIOU Intercultural Negotiation 360 feedback tool, and more.

To be honest, getting good at negotiation and conflict resolution does not mean your problems will go away: It just means you'll get more interesting and challenging problems to solve. Problems, after all, are a sign of life.

As you know, many of the concepts in negotiation are relatively simple, but they are often profound and hard to truly apply. To really get this material in our bones . . .  so that it begins to transform us and the world around us, takes application, practice and conversation with other women.

So, if you are a woman (or woman identified), please join me for this round of Women, Negotiation and Power: Level 1 where we will connect the dots between our internal taboos about power, and our capacity to elegantly and pleasurably dismantle systems at home at work and in the world that no longer serve us.

I can guarantee that

  • you will gain insight
  • you will learn practical conflict and negotiation skills that you can apply immediately
  • you will have fun
  • you will connect with some cool women that you may stay connected to long after the course
  • you will better understand, even if a seasoned negotiator, what negotiation, is and why it’s important in all aspects of your life
  • you will better understand why strengthening women's negotiation capacity is the secret sauce to creating a much more pleasurable, democratic, and sane world for all of us.

Doors close at midnight New York time on the 29th.

Hope to see you there.

Please share with a woman this might interest.
