In Berlin there are countless restaurants and different food stalls. One of the significant advantages of the city is the wide variety of vegan food. Berlin is one of the friendliest cities for vegans (maybe even the friendliest in the world) because in almost every corner you can find vegan food including supermarkets.
In this article I will review seven very good places where you can find vegan food. What they all have in common is that they are not really restaurants but "corners", as I have just mentioned you will be able to find quality vegan food in these places. Six of those places are located in the West Kreuzberg area except one that is located in Mitte.
Why am I personally in favor of vegan food? The first reason is a health reason (vegan food is healthier than animal food).
A diet that consists of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds is a diet rich in beneficial fibers, vitamins and minerals. In recent years, the health value of choosing veganism has increased and it is receiving more and more reinforcements from qualified sources.
Another reason is humanitarian and it is the prevention of animal suffering.
Several years ago, I read that every day you don't eat meat you actually save an animal from death (because you avoid buying meat and therefore the demand for meat decreases and as a result fewer animals are slaughtered).
Another important reason is the environment. Consider that animals are part of the natural environment and indirectly also integrate into the process of photosynthesis. Beyond that, it is important to remember that the animal food industries are among the most polluting industries on the planet and create enormous air pollution.
And these are the cool corners where you can also find vegan food in Berlin/Kreuzberg (Of course there are tons of other cool places in the city and this is only the tip of the iceberg):
- Veggie & Vega - Previously was a vegan Indian restaurant at the highest level (in my opinion one of the best restaurants in Berlin) located at Bergmannstra?e 27 (Bergmannkiez) and serves 100% Vegan food. However a few months ago their renting contract came to an end and they had moved to gneisenaustra?e 5 (it is still a walking distance from the previous restaurant). Now it is just a small place but still one of the bests for vegan lovers.
- Goldies Smashburger - Also known as the best bad food in town (located at Graefestra?e 93, a walking distance from Sch?nleinstra?e U Bahn station). When I was there, I chose the vegan burger of course, and in case you'd like to order too, pay attention that the payment can only be made by credit/debit card (no cash allowed) and there is usually a queue (I have waited 30 minutes). I visited the place after I watched an episode about it on the Galileo youtube channel.
- Curry 36 - Yes! The legendary place also serves vegan dishes. Well I didn't until I found out about it and decided to try the vegan curry with fries. The well known Curry 36 has four branches Mehringdamm, Bahnhof Zoo, Hauptbahnhof and S-Bahnhof Warschauer Stra?e. I have tried the one at Mehringdamm (located at Mehringdamm 36) two steps from Mehringdamm U Bahn station. So, if you want to feel like a real Berliner this is the place for you??
- Mustafa's Gemüse Kebap - Located at the heart of west Kreuzberg, two steps from Mehringdamm U Bahn station (at Mehringdamm 32). The place always has long queues, which indicates high food quality, and from my personal experience this is indeed the case. This is one of the Kreuzberg symbols without a doubt so check it out if you have the chance.
- K?fte 61 - This place is Turkish cuisine that serves Turkish D?ners (located at Gneisenaustra?e 16). In addition to that you will be able to find halloumi, a variety of sandwiches, soup and my favorite vegan Dürüm. This is a very quiet place with a calm atmosphere (unlike most noisy Turkish D?ners). In addition this is a sterile and clean place that offers a high quality of vegan D?ners.
- Yorck's Kebap Allin - one of the high top quality Kebab places to dine in Berlin. This corner serves not only vegan Kebab but also offers Dürüm, falafel, pizza, tons of high quality spices, halloumi, shawarma, falafel and more. Very cool place especially due to its location which is Yorckstra?e 89A, a walking distance from Mehringdamm U Bahn station.
- Esra Gemüse Falafel Shawarma - If you are interested in Middle Eastern vegan food at the highest level, this is the place for you. The place serves a wide variety of vegan and non-vegan dishes and when I dined there I mainly remembered the high quality of the food (especially the quality of the hummus, falafel and vegetables) beyond that the place offers a wide variety of spices and sauces for the dish you ordered. I have actually found the place on the way to the Neue Synagoge (also known as Oranienburger synagogue). The place is located at Oranienburger Stra?e 87 - Extremely high quality Hummus.
