Cool Down for a Better Summer Project Officially Kicked off: Bringing Electricity-free Cooling Technology to Communities in Need

Climate change, one of today's most urgent global issues, is increasingly capturing attention. This summer, Sanskrit, i2Cool, and Shero Initiative have joined hands to launch the Cool Down for a Better Summer Project, applying electricity-free cooling paint to public communities worldwide affected by extreme heat.

Guided by the GLP (Global Life Protected) concept, the project will leverage platforms of Sanskrit and Shero Initiative, along with i2Cool’s electricity-free cooling technology. It aims to utilize innovative energy-saving technology to enhance summer living conditions for communities in need.

Embracing GLP Concept

GLP (Global Life Protected) is a global concept proposed by Dr Peter Lee Ka-kit, Chairman of Sanskrit. It is a human-centered approach that focuses on the well-being of all humanity. The concept advocates constructing a harmonious and sustainable global community through efforts in charity, environmental protection, education, and health. Its goal is to ensure that every life receives care and protection, working together to create a better world.

Electricity-free Cooling Technology

Technical Principle

The patented product, electricity-free cooling paint (iPaint), achieves efficient cooling without the need for external power or refrigerants. It leverages polymer blends and inorganic particles to achieve optimal optical and thermal properties, boasting an impressive 95% solar reflectivity and mid-infrared emissivity. This breakthrough surpasses the 90% reflectivity limit of traditional thermal insulation coatings.

Application Result

The electricity-free cooling paint (iPaint) has been extensively tested and applied in practical settings. It shows significant cooling effects in high-temperature environments, reducing building surface temperatures by up to 42°C and saving up to 42% in cooling system energy consumption. The application process is simple and swift, requiring only standard tools and equipment commonly available.

Featured Case

Hong Kong experienced its hottest summer on record in 2023. i2Cool, in collaboration with the Lee Hysan Foundation, applied iPaint to the rooftops of residential buildings in Sham Shui Po. This electricity-free cooling paint effectively reduced indoor temperatures and enhanced air-conditioning efficiency. As a result, residents benefited from significant monthly savings on electricity bills, improving affordability and enhancing their summer living experience.

i2Cool Public Welfare Project: After applying the iPaint to the Wing Ming Building in Sham Shui Po, the surface temperature dropped by up to 32°C.

Call for Participation in the Cool Down for a Better Summer Project

The Cool Down for a Better Summer Project will provide free applications of i2Cool's electricity-free cooling paint to public communities worldwide affected by extreme heat. This easily implementable technology aims to benefit a broader population.
