Here, Khilan Shah, Senior Client Services Executive at high-end automotive finance provider JBR Capital , explains how he has learned how crucial team spirit is, plus the importance of feeling valued and recognised, while ensuring those around him do as well.???
Having spent six years in the automotive finance industry prior to joining JBR Capital in November 2021, Khilan Shah has discovered the different ways in which the industry functions, despite not originally picturing himself as part of it.?
When did you become interested in cars?
“Ever since I passed my driving test I’ve been intrigued by the world of cars, but I never imagined myself working in finance,” Khilan explains. “It was a bit of a random career path for me, but once I was in the business, I really enjoyed working with customers to help them purchase the cars that they were deeply passionate about.?
After quite a few years working for big companies, I realised I wanted a new challenge. So, a recruiter put me in touch with JBR Capital, and even while I was interviewing for the role, I knew this was a place where I wanted to work. It ticked all the right boxes, the team seemed genuinely interested in me and my progression, and the positivity was obvious.”?
How has working with different teams across JBR enhanced your development?
“The great thing about working in the Client Services team is the collaboration with our colleagues beyond our own department. From Business Development Managers contacting us for their clients, to working with the credit team to provide all the information they need to assess an agreement, we get to see how a finance agreement works from start to finish,” Khilan states.???
How do you find working in Client Services??
“Everyone in the team has a great relationship, which makes working with one another so much easier and more enjoyable. We make a real effort to maintain this as well, going for monthly team lunches and having regular social events,” Khilan says.?

What do you enjoy about working at JBR?
“Gaining experience within the team and learning more about our industry has been a real highlight for me – it’s always fun to learn new things. Despite working in car finance previously, dealing with the new challenges of working with dealers and brokers was something I hadn’t experienced before.???
Beyond picking up these new skills, it’s just been really great to be a part of a smaller company and have my work recognised and valued. It’s really nice to know that what you do is taken on board, and if you need anything, you can go to a colleague and they’ll be more than willing to help you.”?
What projects are you working on, outside of work?
“Back in September 2022, my friend and I decided to set up our own vegan takeaway business,” Khilan explains. We’re both vegans, but back when I used to eat meat I loved KFC. We spotted a gap in the market for takeaway vegan chicken, and that’s when we came up with our business – Vegan Yard.??
We specialise in vegan burgers, mainly using wheat protein as the substitute, and we work through Instagram. We open the page for orders for collection on Friday nights, and we’ve sold out every time so far. We’re really enjoying it, both the cooking and business aspects, so we’re definitely looking to grow!”?
