The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover

Italian food, international guests, and a great cook

Part II of iClassical Academy's fascinating story!

Villa Sandra could accommodate a professor, a few students, the recording crew, the editor, and our manager. Very handy!

A fantastic cook also delighted everyone with Italian specialties, quite a feat for our international guests! The villa owner was a music lover, a good harpsichord, and a piano player.

He had another villa on the lake with those instruments (and two big Doberman dogs who spent their time barking or were put in a particular room while the guests enjoyed the park and the view on the sailboats cruising on the lake). His wealth came from the world of Italian fashion (if you ask me, I shall give you the name), and the business he was in with his brother was on the high end of clothing, exceptionally light textile for winter clothes.?

Such wonderful villa, nice dogs and stunning view to Lake Maggiore!

Recording and living under one roof

Recording was hard work for the professor, the teacher, and the whole team, recording, editing, and managing. The class started with a performance by the student (that you find on special files on our website), followed by remarks and suggestions by the teacher.

Our recording team with Denis Szabo, the pianist and assistant and our manager.

Communication was good at a human level; however sometimes tricky because of the languages. There were teachers from many countries whose mother tongues sometimes interfered with their English, not to speak of the students! They were chosen to have reached a high level in their playing skills but were not required to master English.

Despite these shortcomings, the results were good. This is also due to our specialist for subtitles, who, as an English translator, could put in the text (the subtitles on the videos) that was not always understandable when spoken! In addition, she lived far away (you would be surprised by the beautiful city where she worked – just ask me!).?

I remember the recordings with Hagai Shaham! Very inspirational, and we worked on Sibelius VC and Ravel's Tzgiane. Hagai is a former student of Ilona Feher and created a foundation in her name.
