Who are you? What's your story? How did you get to where you are TODAY?
These are just a few of the questions to ask yourself when it comes to creating a breakthrough and disrupting the market with your convictions. Okay, let's backtrack:
Convictions. What are they?
Your convictions are what you believe to be true from the bottom of your heart. The message you share, the meaningful conversations you have with your audience that no one else is having. Your unique and different perspective that sets you apart from the rest, that fills the gap in your market that hasn't been filled, and gives you undeniable authority in your space.
When your clear on your convictions, you attract your tribe with much greater ease. Why? Because when you're authentically communicating your message to the market, the people who resonate with your story, who can see themselves in your shoes, they're going to want more. And many times, what holds entrepreneurs back from sharing their true convictions is the fear that their message isn't going to resonate. A fear that they won't be immediately liked or accepted.
Be brave and share anyway. It's okay to zig when everyone else is zagging. To go against the grain and disrupt your market with your unique positioning. If you don't, you'll have a really hard time attracting your ideal client.
If you're ready to set yourself apart as a category of one, the first step is identifying your three unique core differentiators. Go deep into your past experiences and expertise: in life, in your career, in the challenges you've faced and overcame. What are the three connection points that you can share, that people will be able to relate to?
Here are mine:
- I'm a former Fortune 500 executive. I built 17 business units and a team of 100 from the ground up. I managed P&Ls for $50+ million entities of business. Because of my successful corporate background, I attract an audience of people who want and need a qualified coach and mentor with high-level business expertise.
- I have a significant athletic background. I was an NFL cheerleader and competitive dancer for almost 20 years. So, why do I attract people who have had some level of competitive or athletic background? Because everything I teach in business goes back to that athlete mindset. Because they understand the discipline, the running of drills, the execution the precision, the sweat and hours of practice and mastery that goes into high-performance. They understand that results don't happen overnight. They take time, and hours of hard work -- even when no one's there to clap for you.
- I'm a family-first mom who built my business while working full-time. In fact, I worked part-time on my business all the way up until I hit 7-figures. So, unlike what most people are teaching out there, I'm teaching clients how to build family-first businesses, helping those with full-time roles be successful while working part-time on their business without 80-hour work weeks, without burnout, and without giving up the things that matter most to them.
Moral of the story: I didn't reach to find my core differentiators. I selected my positioning based on my convictions, based on my past experiences, my unique skillset. Copying someone else position or messaging is just going to lock you into the position of second best.
If you want to create breakthrough and disrupt the messaging in your market, you have to focus on anchoring into your unique conviction and filling that gap.
