Conveyor Dynamics Completes Detail Engineering of 42-mile Long Overland Conveyor System

Conveyor Dynamics, Inc. (CDI) is excited to announce that we have completed the detailed mechanical and control system engineering of the historic 42 mile (67.8 km) long Atlas Energy Solutions ‘Dune Express’ Overland Conveyor system.?When completed, Dune Express will be the longest chain of conveyors built in 50 years! The conveyor system will transport up to 2,100 short tph of frac sand across the Permian Basin and into New Mexico where it will supply remote distribution facilities. The system will remove greater than 50 million miles per year of diesel haul trucking from public roads in the region, reducing road congestion and making the local community safer and cleaner.

The Dune Express has been thoughtfully designed to account for existing infrastructure obstacles including the regional road infrastructure.?The horizontally curved conveyor system comprises of 4 main overland conveyor flights with the longest of which is 16.4 miles (26.3 km).

The Dune Express includes the most advanced conveying technology available today, such as:

• Real time smart idler monitoring
• Real time belt monitoring
• Load tracking technology
• Heat resistant low rolling resistance conveyor belt bottom rubber covers for power efficiency.
• Close fitting ground module weather covers to ensure water and wind ingress protection to prevent product waste and spoil, developed with advanced CFD simulation and wind tunnel validation.

CDI also developed new technology to meet Atlas’s design requirements, including:

• An online idler change-out tool to safely change idlers on a running conveyor
• A Load cell free belt tension monitoring instrument for tail drive control.
• A mobile unloading facility than can offload sand at any location along the conveyor route, further reducing trucking requirements.

We have no doubt that this historic conveyor system will be a conveyor design benchmark for decades to come!
