Now let's get started with this week's marketing hack.
This hack helps to improve the overall website experience.
It helps to convert your website visitors to leads.
It improves engagement on your website.
Wondering what I am talking about?
?? Exit intent popups.
Exit intent popups are banners that pop up when you are about to leave a website. On a desktop, they work based on your cursor movements while on mobile phones, an exit intent is detected using other methods like pressing the back button, scrolling up, staying idle on a page, etc.
But how do exit intent popups help in converting visitors into leads?
The most popular type of exit popup are forms - which you can use to request users to subscribe to a newsletter, download an ebook, unlock a discount code, or get access to an exclusive event. Gamification techniques like lucky wheels are also used as exit popups.
The options are plenty. The idea is to give a killer offer and experience that the user can’t resist.

To understand exit intent popups better, check out the below video from OptinMonster - a popular exit popup creation tool:
The video talks about how this can be done for an e-commerce store, but it works for B2B business websites too.
In addition to exit intent popups, you can also trigger popups based on other criteria such as time spent on a page, scroll depth, inactivity time, etc.
Other tools using which you can create exit popups include Hello Bar, Qualaroo, Informizely, and Optimonk.
According to Optimonk, exit popups received an average conversion rate of 11.09% in 2021. This is proof that the tactic works. Even if you consider half the conversion rate, exit popups are worth giving a try.
One thing to note here is that, if you don’t already have good traffic to your website (say at least 1000 users per month), exit popups are not worth it, since you would end up getting very less conversions, which wouldn’t justify your investment in the tool.
That's all for the week. Hope you loved the hack.
