Convert Leads Using Content That Hooks (Without Trying Too Hard)

You’re drowning in content.
LinkedIn, TikTok, emails—everywhere you look, someone is trying to sell you something surreptitiously.
And they do this using entertaining, interesting, and engaging content.
But here’s the harsh truth: Most content? It’s invisible. And if your content isn’t stopping people, you’re losing money.
While I’m a huge proponent of businesses making content, it still needs to be done right.
Why? Because posting content is not marketing.
But you get a big ‘E’ for putting in the effort because most companies won’t.
The nimble ones know that marketing follows principles. And throwing out content hoping something sticks isn’t a strategy—it’s a gamble. Sure, you might get likes and engagement, but does that lead to sales?
The Hard Lesson I Learned
In September 2022, I started writing fleet management blogs. Boy, was I excited to at least be putting content out there. “At least I get brownie points for showing up,” was my thought process at the time.
They got me some traction—a good start since I had no copywriting skills. But since I wanted to drive serious traffic to my website, I needed to improve.
Then, one day at the gym, I met my now podcast co-host—an experienced email copywriter. Somehow, we started talking about marketing and sales gurus, and guess what? We had been following the same mentors since 2013. So, we exchanged contacts and met for drinks that weekend.
That night, he changed my entire approach to marketing. He showed me that content alone wasn’t enough and that copywriting was the missing piece.
Being obsessed with learning, I took action immediately. I asked him to mentor me and recommend experts. He gave me a list: Dan Kennedy, Dan Henry, Alex Cattoni, Jason Capital, Chris Orzechowski, and more.
Fast forward two years—after writing and refining copy nonstop—I officially launched Cloud98 Marketing.
The thing is, I could’ve kept writing just to say I had blogs on my website.
But vanity metrics don’t pay the bills. I didn’t start writing for validation; I started writing to generate leads and close deals.
Why Your Content Isn’t Converting (And How to Fix It)
Some people think this way:
I won’t lie—I used to think the same way. But the marketplace crushed that illusion.
I found myself blaming the market and complaining, which felt good for a while. But sadly, it didn’t make me any money.
Here’s why that mindset is flawed:
Think about the last time you stopped to read a post:
What made you pause? The value or the first few words that hooked you in?
If you don’t capture attention instantly, you lose. Period.
And you have only 3 seconds to do that.
I can’t count how many articles I poured effort into—packed with value—yet they flopped because my headline wasn’t good enough to stop the scroll.
Big shoutout to my mentor, Mathew Volkwyn, whose copywriting mentorship coached me to write scroll-stopping headlines.
Painful lesson. But it taught me this:
What makes someone read your post instead of scrolling on TikTok for hours?
How to Write a Hook That Captures Attention Instantly
Even the best content dies if it doesn’t hook people in the first few seconds.
Here’s the truth:
Imagine pitching a client. Would you start with:
? “Our company offers premium solutions.”
or
? “What if I told you you’re losing leads because of one simple mistake?”
Be honest—which one grabbed your attention?
If your content isn’t stopping people mid-scroll, it’s invisible.
How to Create Engaging Content That Converts Leads
Your content should pull readers in—not push messages at them.
Too many businesses create content just to tick a box or copy competitors.
That’s a surefire way to blend in. And in case you didn’t know, good marketing shouldn’t help you blend in—it should make you stand out.
Here’s how to do it:
? Start with contrast – (“Most content feels forced. The best feels effortless.”)
? Use open loops – (Pose a question that demands an answer.)
? Make it visual – (“Picture this: A lead sees your post and actually stops…”)
? Trigger emotions – (Curiosity, surprise, FOMO, relatability.)
Before vs. After Example
? Before: “Writing good content is important for engagement.”
? After: “Why do some posts go viral while others get ignored? The secret is in the first sentence.”
See the difference??
The best content doesn’t just inform—it hooks, engages, and sells.
Writing Content That Converts: The Mindset Shift You Need
If your content isn’t converting leads, it’s not just your offer—it’s your approach.
Because let’s be honest…
People don’t engage with just valuable content.
They engage with valuable content that grips them.
You can keep hoping people magically read your posts, or you can hook them from the first line.
So, what’s it going to be?
Will your content continue to blend into the noise?
Or are you ready to create content that stops people in their tracks?
Are you ready to fix your content?
If you’re thinking, "I have no idea how to do this…"—don’t worry. That’s precisely why we’re here.
Most people will keep posting content that doesn’t convert.
But you? You’re smarter than that.
If you’re ready to create content that actually brings in leads, drop me a message now.
Let’s make your content impossible to ignore.
