Don't get it wrong by reading the headline of this post, it's not about sales conversions or lead conversions. I am talking about religious conversations !!
I am writing this after reading Today's TOI's article 'Conversions:pay heed to our founders' by Manoj Mitra, as there are so much Hippocrates out there, in so called intellectuals circles which have there prejudice.
First of all Indian Constitution provide religious freedom to everyone in India and Hinduism is most secular faith exist even before Christian faith exist in world. Hinduism doesn't believe in forceful conversions as it believes in all faith. Sarva Dharma Sambhava, which literally means that all Dharmas (truths) are equal to or harmonious with each other.
I don't see the same vibes coming from head/clerics of Christianity or other major faiths, they all believe that true salvation can be achieved from there respective path only. I point out this to tell the Hippo-critical attitude at top of the helm from all other major faiths.
Second If we all like to believe that growth in number of Christians, Muslims in rural and small towns of India is all due to self Conscience and strongest values of these faith then we all trying to fool each other, States like Kerla, Bengal, etc., are biggest example of evangelism. Regarding the number I will just say study the census in such areas and you will identify yes there is conversions which is going on since the Independence.(Though conversion are there since 1st Century AD but grow as and when political situation benefits one faith to other)
Well evangelism sounds like good word but if I prefix with 'active' then it doesn't sounds that good to me. Here active means that practitioner follows all such ways which ethically may wrong but legally all right as far as state law concerned. For example this generally starts with finding people who are semi atheist(Tribals, Dalits, or Hindus which don't follow religion as general as people in mainstream do), marginalised by majority, etc., Then they will such people to join them with some kind of religious exercise and be part of it without spending anything and they get in return respect and other benefits of doing so. Here benefit will start slowly, but continuously and can be as mere as food to as big as cash and sometime even promise of Land etc., This process take 6 months as minimum to 2-3 years max.
Did you ever heard that someone from middle class educated working professional and his family get converted into another religion ? Generally No !!, Yes there could be some exceptional cases but most of conversions happened of rural, tribal and economically marginalised people. This fact point itself that without forceful conversions ohh sorry, Active Evangelism is very much in play.
Can anyone tell how much foreign money Vatican or its associate dolled out to missionaries and same case for other respected religions. My Christian friends will argue that money is used for good of poor people in India. I agree with them till some point like opening up schools, hospitals and charitable institutions. Here I will not say that all such institutions are Cloak for there active evangelism but definitely there are many who does that.
I am convent educated and I thanks for that in my life but I do remember there is propaganda followed by such institutions, like we had celebrated Christmas as if it was our own festival and asked us to sing choirs and take active participation in Jesus plays and we did it also in our innocence. But I didn't remember that Deepawali or Janmasthmi was celebrated in same spirit. Another straight example is, 'there was a peon who works as labour in our convent school, his duty is to rang bells, get teachers attendance registers etc., We were seeing him working there since we were in first standard till I completed 10th, during 8th standard I remember that one day our father(School Principal, we all child use to say them as father) announced in morning prayer that Mr. Peon (I don't remember his name) is successfully accepted Christian faith and Lord Jesus will bless him, off course he sounds very happy. As far as I know he was Hindu from birth as the name predicts but from SC background and poor but then his last name suddenly changed so his living style which predicts he become Christian. Those days we don't understand much but able to recollect this incident, later in life as I have seen more such example where Christian & Muslim evangelism is in full swung.
Now when same active evangelism is practised by right wing institutes, all of sudden it became unacceptable, un-secular, policy of dividing India and absurd point as breaking social fabric of India, . This I called absolute Hippocratic.
Again I myself and even my religion is against the forceful conversions. So as per Mr. Mitra our founding fathers of India willingly not put the clause which ambiguously allowed to propagate the faith as right it may seem to that faith. Then the same logic applies to Hinduism and its's evangelist as it were applied from last 60 years for Islam or Christian evangelism.
As someone said rightly if you have problem with such active evangelism of right wing people then bring anti conversion law which will be equal to all religion, otherwise either don't make unnecessary noise or stop converting Hindus.
Media is reporting that NDA government is facing dilemma but it's not NDA but the same pseudo secular politician who are taking upper house to ransom, because they know they can't talk about anti conversion bill as it will disturb there constituency(There Vote Bank) and they can't keep quiet also as it also disturb there interest and again same constituency.
End of day if someone treats this post as communal post I have a pity on there thoughts and reasoning. I never seen RSS office and never visited BJP office, my thoughts are my personal and I hate Hippocratic Intellectuals.

10 年Great job Vishal! People should have freedom, they should not be forced or tricked to follow any religion.
