Conversational Intelligence? (C-IQ) Definition
Conversational Intelligence? is about connecting, navigating and growing WITH others. It’s about understanding how conversations impact us emotionally, physically, and spiritually, and how to shape conversations in ways that elevate and activate the networks for growth, empathy, wisdom, intuition, strategy and other high level capacities hardwired in our human system. C-IQ is a necessity in building healthier and more resilient organisations in the face of change.
C-IQ provides us with frameworks for building TRUST, which is the human platform from which great conversations emerge. C-IQ provides a new innovative frameworks for understanding how conversations shape our relationships, partnerships, our culture and our reality. C-IQ introduces new frameworks and tools for creating higher levels of trust, of activating higher levels of engagement, strengthening partnerships, and catalysing co-creation and innovation in relationships, teams and cultures. As we build trust with others, we strengthen our ability to EXPRESS our inner thoughts and feelings - which strengthens our relationships and creates mutual personal and business success.
What is Conversational Intelligence? and how is it different than other methods?
We are in conversations every day and research shows that 9-10 conversations miss the mark. Sometimes people may say to you, “I don’t have time to spend in deep conversations – they take too long.” By mastering C-IQ, what normally could take months or even years, can happen instantaneously. Conversational Intelligence enables deeper connections to surface quickly with others. We see higher levels of trust, of partnering and of co-creating behaviours. Our world is moving from an I-centric world to a WE-centric world. The power of C-IQ as a new and innovative framework is profound. With C-Q, we find that conversations are easier to have, even when conversations are difficult conversations. Learning to talk in a way where “they listen to me, and I listen to them”.

C-IQ is really such a unique way of engaging individuals, teams and companies because you literally learn what is happening in our brains moment to moment.
C-IQ is a body of work that helps us understand what conversations open up and what close down our brain.
C-IQ gives us insight into how our brain responds during conversations. How conversations activate our trust and distrust (networks in our brain). How to understand and architect conversations that create healthy thriving relationships (teams and organisations). Conversations either open us up or close us down. Learning about C-IQ gives us new conversational skills and also gives us insights into the neurotransmitters (lowering the Cortisol – the chemistry of fear and distrust, and elevating Oxytocin - the chemistry of connection) which are activating how we respond, interact and influence others.

C-IQ / IQ / EQ
You have heard of IQ (Intellectual Intelligence), and EQ (Emotional Intelligence). Conversational Intelligence? (C-IQ) is the next level of intelligence.
EQ is learning and growing the Self which is “I-centric”. It is about understanding our innermost thoughts and feelings as we engage with others and it helps us understand how to increase empathy and understanding of others.
C-IQ is about learning and growing with others. It is about SHARING our innermost thoughts and feelings. It is about Co-regulation or “WE-centric”
One aspect of EQ is focuses on learning to down regulate (calm) our emotions. EQ is about self-regulation. C-IQ focuses on co-regulating. Co-regulating means we learn how conversations between people have the ability to (create anxiety or connection with each other) up and down regulate each other’s emotions. This gives us deep insights into how our conversations with others shape our behaviours, thoughts feelings, teams, and our organisations and future success.
C-IQ gives us the power to:

Levels of Conversation
What makes C-IQ so unique and why C-IQ coaches stand out from others, is their deep awareness of Interaction Dynamics and how to address these dynamics on the deepest and most subtle levels. C-IQ introduces a framework that shows we have 3 levels of conversation going on all the time. Level I is Transactional (asking and telling); Level II is Positional (advocating and inquiring); and Level III – Transformational (sharing and discovering. Coaches will introduce this framework and work with clients to see how to develop the ability to understand how to use all 3 Levels appropriately and in ways that elevate the quality of conversations everywhere.
