In conversation with Thomas Tsang, Senior Manager, Workforce Strategy & Analytics

We spoke with Thomas Tsang, Senior Manager, Workforce Strategy & Analytics?at our Guest Education Centre (GEC) in Vancouver, BC to learn more about him and his experience working for lululemon.?

Here’s what he had to say ↓

1. Why did you choose lululemon??

When I first started looking for a new role, lululemon immediately stood out to me. I was a fan of the brand, the products, and heard a lot of positive sentiments about the work culture. l remember my first Metal Vent Tech tee my brother bought me for Christmas 10 years ago and was blown away by the quality. I still have that shirt today!

2. What do you love about working for the GEC?

The people. You will hear that a lot from people at lululemon in general. I have had the opportunity to meet some of the most talented and thoughtful individuals during my tenure. The company continues to grow and I have watched the GEC scale from 300 educators to 1200+ over the last 5 years. There are always opportunities to challenge yourself and develop new skillsets along the way.

3. Tell us about your career journey?

I studied health sciences in university and started my career in the healthcare field. I remember early on in university, I wanted to focus on careers that I perceived to be “risk adverse”. Healthcare was a field that would always grow and I saw Canada’s universal healthcare as a symbol of national pride. Eventually I decided that I needed to diversify my resume and gain knowledge in other fields. I joined lululemon in 2017 as an Analyst and transitioned into multiple management roles since then. Like most people in Workforce Strategy, you don’t plan on it, but you end up developing a passion for it.

4. What are key skillsets you look for in a candidate applying to work at the GEC???

I am always looking for individuals who take initiative and demonstrate they are looking at ways to optimize and improve what they are working on.?

5. What is current goal you are working on?

A goal that I just recently achieved was completing my first half marathon! My goal was to complete the race within 1 hour and 45 minutes and I finished it in 1 hour and 54 minutes. I learned a lot from this experience and mostly, the importance of refuelling and training for elevation.
