In this article series titled 'My role at Radical Departures', we're exploring the #MedComms journey of all our team members. In this latest instalment we hear from our Creative Developer Nate Lansdall-Welfare , interviewed by our Medical Writer Natasha Leese !
What is your current role at Radical Departures?
I am a Creative Developer.
How did you get involved in medical communications?
I started my career in Graphic Design, which I studied at university and then pursued professionally for several years. Eventually, I transitioned into web development and programming, having always loved computers and tinkering around with them. I took an intensive course in web development and joined Radical Departures shortly after as a Junior Developer. I was drawn to Radical Departures because of its friendly, forward-thinking approach and the opportunity it offered to explore various aspects of web development. With both of my parents being medical doctors, medical communications felt like a natural fit for me, as I’ve been exposed to that world my entire life. It’s rewarding to know that our work helps people access the information they need to make meaningful changes in their lives.
Favourite aspect of your role?
I love working on a new project, as it allows me to explore a range of new approaches for the first time. For example, I may experiment with learning and implementing the best way to show a rotatable 3D model, informative animation or a clever piece of responsive design.
Most challenging aspect of your role?
The most challenging aspect of my role is keeping up with the latest technology and continuously pushing myself to learn new skills and discover better ways of doing things. The role can throw a variety of tasks at you: one day it might be a WordPress site, the next a full stack database. Fortunately, we are given the time and support to learn new skills, and there is great satisfaction in increasing your knowledge and creating something new.
Favourite part of working at Radical Departures?
Everyone at Radical Departures is lovely, professional and hard-working. Having such a great bunch of people to work with makes even the more challenging times a lot more bearable!?
