In this article series titled 'My role at Radical Departures', we're exploring the #MedComms journey of all our team members. In this latest instalment we hear from our Medical Writer Natasha Leese , interviewed by our Account Executive Anjana Tamang !
What is your current role at Radical Departures?
I am a Medical Writer.
How did you get involved in medical communications?
I fear my answer is fairly textbook! I began to consider a career in medical communications towards the end of my undergraduate degree. My final year, during which I performed a combination of bench-based experiments and bioinformatics, confirmed to me that the uncertainty and variability of scientific research was not what I wanted in a career. I was looking for a more structured day-to-day experience but still sought variety and a creative outlet.
I attended several career discovery workshops hosted by alumni medical writers and decided to give the world of medical communications a try. I joined Radical Departures in 2021 as a junior team member and haven’t looked back since!
Favourite aspect of your role?
I am lucky to work across several accounts and projects, producing a range of different materials for various clients. Each task comes with its own new challenge. I enjoy that most weeks are different – I never quite know what to expect! This means I’m constantly learning and evolving within my role.
Most challenging aspect of your role?
Time management is an important skill in medical writing. My role requires that I keep track of deadlines and deliver high quality work on time. This can be challenging when juggling tasks across several different accounts, all of equal importance. Prioritisation and effective communication with my colleagues are key!
Favourite part of working at Radical Departures?
We’re a close-knit team at Radical Departures. We collaborate and work closely with one another across a variety of projects, providing support in any way we can. Everyone is so lovely to work with, and I feel very lucky to be part of such a kind and driven team. I may be biased, BUT I think we’re pretty great.
