How many times in a day does your mom ask you to help her with understanding an online ad?
This Mother's day I decided to introduce #YouTube to my mom.
Initially, she was sceptical about it but later she started using it like a pro.
She came around a TrueView ad on her mobile screen and she loudly called me out.
She asked me that when I want to watch a recipe video, why is YouTube showing her lipstick.
Just for your understanding, it was a skippable ad running on one of the food channels on YouTube.
I explained to her that these are just like TV commercials that come in between when you watch your favourite soaps. She was like, I don't want to see the recipe video. Please dismiss it. I knew she was losing her cool with the out-of-context lipstick ad.
I said you can click on the "Skip Ad" button on the video. That will take you to your recipe video again. (I hope that the #Brand doesn't know, it was me who made them lose their Ad view!!).
And now, she is happily and proudly skipping every ad coming on her way like a Pro. Wow!
In some time, she called out to me again. I thought that she has now come across a non-skippable ad.
To my surprise, I was wrong.
She asked me about my job and what I do sitting on the chair placed on my balcony the whole day, gazing at my laptop.
You know (with head high and a pause) my job is to make plans on placing the ads which you find so disturbing on YouTube :-) to the relevant audience.
She gasped and stared at me as if I was the culprit behind the Novel #Corona #Virus spill! So you are the reason why I have to forcefully watch those ads which have no meaning and purpose for me?
I put on my big, fat, wicked smile and said, "That's my job all right".
She said, now I know what you do son. She patted my back and said I will explain this to your father also. I just hope he understands without going through the process that I had to go through.
Mom's are just soo sweet, isn't it? Now I have two digital students at home.
