Welcome Cindi, today we are going to talk about joy.
What does joy at work mean to you?
Having joy at work means experiencing a sense of happiness, fulfillment, and satisfaction in your work environment. It goes beyond simply being content or satisfied with your job; it involves a deeper sense of joy and enthusiasm for the work you do. Being in alignment with your core values and passion for the work really is a game changer for more joy on the job. Most of anxiety and depression settles in when we are not in true alignment with the work we do all day. That takes a toll on your mind and body, over time. Finding joy at work often involves feeling passionate about what you do and having a sense of purpose in your role. When you believe in the value of your work and its contribution to a greater cause, it can bring a profound sense of fulfillment and joy.
Why do people find it hard to find joy at work?
Many people are focusing on only external circumstances to bring them happiness. Joy comes from the inside, and is independent of circumstances. You can choose to have joy despite your circumstances. It is a mindset that you can practice and cultivate, as your brain is the most powerful computer. When employees' values and goals are not aligned with those of the organization, it can be difficult for them to find joy in their work. Feeling disconnected from the organization's mission or not seeing the relevance of their work will cause great discomfort and lack of joy. Overall, having joy at work involves finding meaning, fulfillment, and satisfaction in your job, as well as fostering positive relationships and maintaining a healthy work-life harmony.
How can you help an unhappy co-worker?

Take the time to listen actively to your coworker's concerns and validate their feelings. Show empathy by acknowledging their emotions and demonstrating that you understand and care about their well-being. Provide words of encouragement and support to let your coworker know that they are not alone. Offer reassurance and remind them of their strengths and abilities. If you can help them with workload, come up with a short term plan to assist. People need to feel heard, seen, and understood.? If you believe your coworker's unhappiness is affecting their mental or emotional well-being, gently suggest seeking professional help. Encourage them to speak with a therapist, counselor, or other mental health professional who can provide support and guidance.
