Controlling Others is Bad For You
Here's an important tip for Mental Health Month that you probably won't hear from anyone else - controlling other people is bad for your wellbeing. It causes stress and anxiety that builds up over time, and there is a price to pay at some point.
It just doesn't suit the natural flow of things in this transition we're making from evolving as individuals to evolving together, which is far more efficient and satisfying. Right now everyone is still trying to milk the last drops out of the previous era - and not understanding why it's no longer fulfilling. That's why. Soon we'll look back and won't believe how primitive we were to think we can treat other humans like our personal robots.
One of our most powerful inner traits is aspiring to freedom, which includes expressing our natural creativity and realizing our potential.
One of our most powerful inner traits is aspiring to freedom, which includes expressing our natural creativity and realizing our potential. Control is the exact opposite. Telling someone what to do at this advanced stage of our development is simply wrong. We all need to be far more concerned that everyone has what they need to develop themselves. Otherwise we're actually harming the universe. And a company that operates in that outdated and limited manner of wanting to control people every hour of the day will only succeed in a very limited way - on a local level for example.
It's like grooming a horse for months for a big race, so when the big day comes you've given the horse everything it needs to succeed. Same goes for humans - you can't just throw them into the ring and say perform now! It doesn't work that way. When people feel empowered to express their true abilities and have the freedom to do so, then instead of a person who feels forced to do certain things at certain times, you'll have a human who is really flourishing and who is a much greater asset to the company.
We are all 100% equal in our ability to boost our potential. Regardless of our character traits, where we grew up or our DNA, we can all learn to accelerate our development. All we need is a desire. But doing that also involves creating equal opportunities for everyone. Of course the boss is still the boss, but when there is an environment with no toxic energy or fear, you can really feel people thriving together.
A great example is an Israeli startup that had to let go of most of its staff. This post by the CEO is actually a follow up from another post where he had to part with employees dealing with a certain sector. I don't know all the details and don't know them personally. But from what I can see, everyone loved working for this CEO, and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Here are some comments from employees, partners and colleagues right on his post about the latest layoffs. They are addressed to Dekel Valtzer , the CEO & Co-Founder of Avo.
Comments on the CEO's post about the latest round of layoffs -
It was a great privilege to join a company like Avo?? Extraordinary human capital and full faith in the workers!
99.99% of the people in the world will never know the feeling of the CEO's belly turning upside down in this situation, it is impossible to describe in words the difficulty of navigating forward, the complexity of coming to terms with what you are going to battle with in the face of what you are forced to say goodbye to - dear people who have accompanied and contributed along the way. Wishing you Dekel and many other CEOs and entrepreneurs who have a similar situation who we are hearing less from - to go through this period successfully and come out stronger to continue ??
Dekel Valtzer without hesitation. I'd join you in your next venture.
Dekel Valtzer ?We had a private discussion regarding this matter not long ago but I would like to propagate my own thoughts and feelings in this format as well. You have built something that surpassed everything that I have experienced in my career.?It was never a job. It was a home, a family, something you joyfully wake up to on a daily basis. Since you have surrounded yourself with the industries finest, this is by no means the swan song or epilogue for both the amazing employees and you as an individual. Thank you so much for...?Well...?Everything!
Thank you so much for everything Dekel.
Thank you for the privilege of working for this amazing company. Happy and proud to be part of Avo's star team. It was interesting, varied, challenging and fun to work with talented, hardworking people and soul actors. Lots of good luck!
Dekel, Idan, Neri and Nir thank you for the privilege and opportunity to be part of a revolutionary society with amazing staff, I learned a lot!

You're real entrepreneurs, hope you don't stop trying??
Thank you for everything! Working at the AVO and with you was exciting, exciting, fun, amazing people with a crazy idea and a strong belief of all of us that it would work. Despite everything - we are all together, we will remain the AVO family even if further away, we will always support each other because we have formed amazing friendships. I had the privilege and pride of working with each and every one! ??
I promised you I wouldn't go there. And yet I wanted to say, a manager like you is a privilege. A prize we won. Thank you for everything, for endless humanity, for constant attention, for availability, for the opportunity, for always seeing. I'd say it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but mostly waiting for the next experience. Just thank you.
Thank you for the privilege of working for a company that has been for me and for many good people a real home. Wishing everyone, at least once in a lifetime, to work in a place like this.
Crazy roller coaster. Countless experiences. Just thank you for every single moment! Hope to meet everyone down the road. Good luck to everyone. Thank you very much also personally to you Dekel for everything!
It's not easy. I wish you come out of this round stronger.
One of the biggest reasons I stayed in the company for almost four years was your sensitive human leadership. You not only built a tremendous company (which if it wasn't for market dictates we would probably have continued on the way to the unicorn club) but you also developed each and every one of it personally and made everyone feel at home. There are no leaders like you. ????????
Thank you so much for the experience, even if it didn't go the way we wanted! Lots of success ????
It was very interesting , teaching, enriching and challenging work but alongside a team of champions and professionals everything became easier and more enjoyable. Good luck going forward.
Dekel thank you so much for the opportunity to work with you??
Thank you for an unforgettable time, I was privileged to witness a developing and growing society and learn and develop with it. I especially appreciate the personal attention and listening, it is not obvious that the founders are interested in customer feedback and give them the proper treatment. A small but important thing that gave me a sense of meaning in the role, thank you ??
Dekel I wrote to you personally, but it's important that everyone sees what a manager you are here, too. Thank you for a time in society that was really a home that was fun to get up every morning and be a part of it??.
Thank you for every moment in this special company. I had the privilege of working in a society where human capital is exceptional. Dekel Valtzer thank you!
Dekel thank you for everything, you really are something special??
?I had a home. Thank you for everything ??
MA Journalism ALL VIEWS MY OWN
2 年I am a big believer Josia Nakash that if you employ the right people you don’t need to control. Sure, have some inobtrusive checks-and -balances…but, maybe get your new colleague to set those checks and balances for themselves. Let them set their own rules. I loathe control freaks and controlling systems and the damage they cause. I think my currernt employer is fabulous and have recently changed roles. The role is far more junior than roles I have succeeded and thrived at in the past. But, with Ill health and age [and overheads] I have had to make a choice. However, i am very impressed with the one team mentality and work culture at FIS. However, the thing that really controls me is not my manager - he is cool and highly likeable and inclusive. No the thing that controls me, and I am struggling to make friends with is the ‘dialler’, a piece of tech that controls my level of inbound sales leads, when I take coffee, when I eat. This is the real 21st century control freak - the algorithm programmed into the dialler. Humans ahead of machines! I have run large call centre operations in the past and large salesforces - but now inspired through my writing I have real ‘empathy’ - as I sit In the chair I employed others to sit in.
