What's Up Docs?!
As the year winds down, now’s the perfect time to look at where you’re headed—starting with your contract. Whether we’ve worked together before or you’re new here, my goal remains the same: to help you navigate your employment agreements with confidence, flexibility, and a good dose of legal protection. Contracts are meant to serve your interests, not hold you hostage to fine print you didn’t realize was there!?
Let’s Talk “Notice” – Because Missing It Can Really Cost You?
One often-overlooked contract detail carrying?significant consequences? Notice periods. As you likely?know,?many physician employment?agreements have a 30-, 60-, or 90-day notice requirement for leaving AND non-renewing.?Notice of leaving and notice of intention to not renew for an additional option are generally different requirements, carrying different obligations and are found in different contract provisions.?Sounds straightforward enough, but missing these deadlines could lock you into another year on the same (sometimes not-so-ideal) terms and conditions. And it gets trickier: automatic renewals, obligations to repay advances, tail insurance responsibilities, and restrictive covenants (hello, non-competes) could all be part of the deal if you’re not aware of what’s lurking in those clauses.?
Imagine This: You Plan to Leave… Only to Realize You’re Stuck (Again)?
The last thing I want is for any of my clients to feel “stuck” due to an unexpected renewal or surprise repayment. That’s why I go through each agreement with a fine-tooth comb and walk you through the details in ways that, I’m told, are often “exhaustive” and perhaps exhausting...yes, you might get more detail than you bargained for—but it’s all part of making sure nothing is left to chance! It's not always what's explicitly written, but the interpretation as well as understanding?what's at play "between the lines."?At a minimum, you want to be aware of your options. Once you take the first step to reach out, link ?? ?? ?? that's where I come in!?
So, What’s Your Plan??
Have you looked at your contract lately? Are you sure there’s nothing hiding in there that could throw off your plans? Now’s the time to take a closer look and ask yourself: Do you want to renew under the same terms, or could a proactive approach open up room for better options? Even if you’re happy with where you are, knowing your options—and your exit strategies—is key to staying in control.?
