Control Your Controllables
Twin girls - that look completely different, even though they're dressed alike

Control Your Controllables

It is amazing to me how much can change depending on the day, the time of day, and the weather, even in the exact same spot, in just one day, sometimes in just 12 or 18 hours.

Take two pictures, taken at almost the exact same time, at the exact same spot, holding the exact same iPhone. The results always amaze me. Sometimes they’re very different. Sometimes they’re only a little different.

Twins are the same way.

All of this reminds me I have no control over any of those things. What I can control is:

  • That I get outside every day
  • That I come to a complete stop before I take the picture
  • That my iPhone lens is clean
  • That I take 3 pictures to make sure at least one turns out.

I can control each of those things. Those are my controllables. Much of my world is this way. Some things are in my control. Some things are not in my control. My job is to control my controllables and release - and don’t worry too much about - the things I have no control over. It’s the same in sales. What you can control, control.

Here are a few things you can control.

  • Planning your day on your calendar Preparing for every opportunity, for every segment of your day.
  • Making the calls.
  • Sending the emails.
  • Entering your notes into your CRM.

What you can’t control, release and detach from.

  • Prospects answering the phone or responding to your email.
  • Getting hung up on.
  • Being told to unsubscribe me from this email series.

Control your controllables.
