Contributing to sustainability through job creation
Companies in the frontline were generally well placed to continue operations during the global interruption in business caused by the Covid pandemic, and Red Alert is no exception. According to Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Peter Harvey, the company was able to retain employees throughout lockdown and is currently witnessing promising and sustainable growth in the workforce.?
For Harvey, preparedness is the key, and he attributes the company’s performance and resilience to their agility and responsiveness. It is the cornerstone upon which they have built their brand and underpins their corporate strategy.
At the time that Covid hit, Red Alert had recently added Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the mix to supply their guarding, cleaning, #hygienesolutions and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) divisions. It was a strategic move to cut costs and create new profit centres for the company and it fortuitously timed in light of the pandemic.
Red Alert Service Solutions employs over 8?000 people, split almost equally across their guarding and cleaning divisions. The 10% increase in their workforce represents around 800 new jobs at a time when unemployment rates remain stubbornly high despite flutterings of increased economic activity across all sectors. This is a significant number and significantly, a large percentage of these jobs fall under their #cleaningservices, where existing clients have increased their focus on cleaning and sanitation, but there has also been a significant organic growth in new clients, particularly in the major metropols.

The company has also launched the Khusela Training Academy which is currently focused on providing in-house training for their workforce, but which will ultimately be a stand-alone offering. They already offer a range of accredited courses and have made a small number of these open to the public, mostly those that relate to their EMS business including Basic First Aid and Fire Marshall training.
The company enjoys a reputation for lower-than-average staff turnover in sectors typically associated with poor staff retention. The nature of the work is shift and contract based but despite that, they credit their values-based culture for the impressive track record of long-service workers. This, insists their CEO, is why they can turn sites around in record time and produce tangible results for clients that put promise into practice. “There is no substitute for experience and when you combine that with an attitude of service excellence that is geared toward earning trust, you can’t go wrong.”
Red Alert celebrate 40 years in business this month and they are gearing up for accelerated growth. Watch this space.?
