Contractually it can be summed up as follows:

  • Should = Won't
  • May = No way

 Specifications must be precise with zero ambiguity. Do not use the words Should or May.

A thought-provoking post as always Adam Muggleton Are not "Must" and "Must not" more appropriate terms for specifications? Out of interest - here are some Building Services specification extracts from a major project currently on site in London for one of the world's largest companies.
