Contraction in business? Read this

Sometimes business feels expansive, exciting, and full of possibility. And then there are times when everything feels tight, slow, or even stagnant. If you’re in that place right now, I want you to know—it’s part of the process.

Today, I want to talk about contraction. Because it’s something that’s been coming up a lot in conversations lately, and I know so many of you are feeling it.

Contraction is that sense of energy pulling inward. The launches that don’t hit the way you expected. The content that isn’t landing. The sense that no matter what you do, things just aren’t flowing like they used to. And while it can be frustrating, I want you to understand—this is an essential part of the cycle of growth.

Why Contraction is Necessary for Growth

In business, we love the expansion. The big sales, the quantum leaps, the effortless flow of clients and money. But contraction? Not so much. It feels uncomfortable. And the natural response is to resist it, push harder, try to force momentum.

But the truth is, contraction is where realignment happens. When you feel stuck or like nothing is working, it’s usually a sign that something in your business (or even in your energy) needs to shift.

Instead of seeing contraction as failure, what if you saw it as an invitation? An invitation to refine your strategy. To reassess what’s truly working. To reconnect with the deeper vision of what you want to create.

Signs You’re in a Contraction Phase

  • You feel uninspired by your offers or content
  • Your audience engagement is lower than usual
  • You’re launching but sales aren’t coming in as expected
  • You’re doubting your path and wondering if you should change everything
  • There’s an overall sense of stagnation, like things aren’t moving forward

Sound familiar? If you’re in this place, here’s what I want you to do: Pause.

The Power of Slowing Down to Speed Up

When things aren’t flowing, the worst thing you can do is force yourself into more action. More content. More strategies. More launches.

Instead, I want you to take a step back. Give yourself space to evaluate where you’re being called to realign.

One of my favorite things to do when I feel contraction in my business is to take a full day (or even just a few hours) completely off from the “doing” and just reflect. Ask yourself:

  • What’s truly feeling aligned in my business right now?
  • What’s feeling heavy or forced?
  • What is this season teaching me about my next level?

You might be surprised at what comes up when you actually create space to listen.

What’s Thriving?

One of the quickest ways to shift out of contraction is to focus on what’s already working. Even in seasons of slowdown, there’s always something thriving.

Maybe it’s a client relationship that’s deepening. A podcast that’s growing. A LinkedIn post that resonated more than usual.

When things feel slow, it’s easy to overlook the momentum that is happening. But tracking and acknowledging your wins—no matter how small—creates expansion.

Expansion Always Follows Contraction

I’ve seen it in my own business time and time again. The moments that feel like everything is slowing down? They’re always followed by an even bigger wave of growth.

The clients come in. The new opportunities land. The clarity clicks into place.

But you have to trust it. You have to allow the contraction to do its work. And most importantly, you have to shift out of the mindset that nothing is working—because that belief alone will keep you stuck longer than necessary.

So if you’re in a contraction phase right now, take a deep breath. You’re exactly where you need to be. And when you allow the pause, the reflection, and the realignment—you’ll step into your next level with more ease, clarity, and alignment than ever before.

That's so about me... and I'm taking much more than one day off... I feel I really need some time to reconnect and recalibrate
