What we’re reading right now ??
Creating your own AI project. For recent grads seeking great tech roles - and want to share accomplishments, how they build, and how they learn in their interviews - this may be the way to go.
“Remote is like the gateway drug to borderless.” Does remote work open the door for borderless work, hiring teams across the world?
Q2 funding is mixed, but up overall. VC investment into SF companies in Q2 reached its second-highest amount since the second half of 2022.
Is contract work on the rise?
While we recruit for mostly full-time roles, we’ve seen an uptick in contract roles or contract-to-hire roles.
We asked LinkedIn candidates what they would prefer if joining a startup, and the majority responded that they’d want to be a full-time hire. Only 12% said they’d want to work in a contract role permanently.
It makes sense that most job-seekers want to be full-time hires immediately. Job security and benefits are associated with full-time roles, as well as a consistent income.
But contract roles also give contractors and companies time to assess whether or not they’re a good fit for the organization without a long term commitment.

And in theory, contractors should have more control over their schedules than full-time employees, which has become increasingly important for work-life balance.
Our take? We think contract roles will continue to rise, especially since tenure length at many tech companies isn’t that long. More and more full-time roles may feel like contract roles, if the average time someone is in a role is only a year or two anyways.
And our advice to job seekers is definitely consider contract roles. Contract roles can turn into amazing full-time roles, ?but even if they don’t - the experience and new skills gained can be well worth the time. Not to mention - contractors are often paid more than full-time employees.
