The Association of British Investigators (ABI) is a professional body for investigators in the private sector.
The ABI offers a range of training and development opportunities for its members, including a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme.
The CPD programme is designed to help ABI members maintain and improve their knowledge, skills, and expertise as professional investigators. It consists of a range of courses, seminars, workshops, and other learning activities that cover a wide range of topics relevant to the investigation industry.
Some of the topics covered by the CPD programme may include:

ABI members can earn CPD points by participating in approved training and development activities, such as writing pertinent articles or case studies, which could be published on the ABI website.
The number of points awarded will depend on the type and duration of the activity. Members are encouraged to earn a minimum of 50 CPD points each year to maintain their membership in good standing. One hour spent on professional development equates to one CPD point.

The ABI also provides a range of other benefits and resources to its members, including networking opportunities, access to industry publications and research, and professional standards and guidelines.
The ABI CPD programme is designed to be flexible and accessible, with a variety of learning activities available to suit different schedules and learning styles.
Members can choose from online courses, conferences, workshops, and other events. The CPD programme is overseen by the ABI Academy, which ensures that the programme is relevant, up-to-date, and meets the needs of the investigation industry.
In addition to the mandatory CPD requirements for membership, the ABI encourages its members to pursue additional training and development opportunities to enhance their skills and expertise. This can include advanced courses in specific investigative techniques, specialised training in areas such as fraud investigation, open source intelligence, surveillance, or cybercrime, or academic qualifications such as a degree in criminology or forensic science.
The CPD programme is just one of the many resources and benefits available to ABI members.
The association also provides access to a range of professional services, such as legal advice and insurance, as well as opportunities for networking, collaboration, and professional development.
To become a member of the ABI, individuals must meet certain eligibility criteria, such as Full members must have a minimum of two years' experience in the investigation sector, private or public, passing a professional assessment, and agreeing to abide by the association's code of ethics and professional standards.
Once approved, members are encouraged to maintain their membership in good standing by meeting the minimum annual CPD points.
