Continuing our global impact, Halliwell Fire Research have collaborated with New Zealand commentary on fire safety in mass timber buildings
Commentary on fire safety in mass timber buildings
A New Zealand commentary on the application of the Fire Safe Use of Wood - Global Design Guide has now been released as a draft for comment. The global design guide here?was published in 2022 with contributions from a wide range of experts from around the world. It provided guidance on fire safety in timber buildings drawing on the latest scientific knowledge intended for architects, engineers, insurance companies and many others in the building industry interested in the design and construction of fire safe timber buildings.
To help address potential obstacles that fire safety matters can present for greater uptake of mass timber buildings in New Zealand, a commentary has been prepared by a group of New Zealand-based experts and stakeholders with the support of Timber Unlimited.
The commentary provides more specific guidance for the application of the guide to New Zealand buildings taking into account the local regulatory environment as well as more recent developments from around the world since the global design guide was first published. The draft for comment can be downloaded from the Timber Unlimited website here.
Halliwell Fire Research’s Dr Colleen Wade has contributed to the global design guide and the draft New Zealand commentary.? Please make contact with Colleen Wade or the wider Halliwell Fire Research team if you require specialised advice on fire safety in timber buildings.
