Continuing the Conversation — A POV on ChatGPT & Diversity
Following our discussion with Ian Hopkins and Michael Malone on ChatGPT's impact on Search and Content, we sought a perspective on how the software is keeping up with the standards we seek to set and advance in DE&I. Thankfully our SVP of Cultural Convergence, Sonia Villalba, was ready with her POV.
For me, this raises questions on whether the content that gets lost in translation can lack cultural context and inclusivity, or even create bias. Deep AI learning relies on historical data, which has concerned researchers because is predominantly comprised of white male characteristics and experiences, dubbed “Pale Male Data”.?
More research is being done, and we’ve seen that companies who are teaching AI platforms to account for diversity and inclusion variables can have a significant impact on ensuring inputs get closer to mirroring the experience of our diverse population.?Joonko,?a diversity AI tracking system, scans job applicant databases to connect highly qualified and under-represented candidates with global companies after not landing the job they applied for. Businesses leveraging the platform see a 25% increase in under-represented candidates and hires one-in-six of those sourced.???
I believe that having more women and diverse specialists in tech roles can also contribute at enforcing perspectives are representative.?Currently,?women represent 18% of C-suite-level executives across AI companies,?and?only 26% of the Data and AI workforce positions are held by women. Improving these systems to account for diversity and inclusion is critical to continue investing in.
Within Zenith, we’ve built Cultural Convergence into the fabric of our combined Growth Practice offering — providing diversity of perspective, background, and lifestyle that can help enable our Content and Commerce partners to connect with today’s increasingly multi-faceted audiences with intentionality and expertise.
