Content Writing Vs Copywriting - The Difference Explained

Content Writing Vs Copywriting - The Difference Explained

Maybe you've heard some say: I'm a content writer and copywriter. If you've been wondering how both differ, then this article is a must-read for you.?

I'll make the difference clear in a couple of minutes. But, before I do, let's first talk about the content (forget the writing part now).?

???????? ???? ???????????????

According to the Collins dictionary, content is any kind of material that can be read or watched online, on television, or in print. In other words, anything written to be read and spoken, accessible online, in print or on TV, can be called content.?

This means that whatever is written is content. Any written piece is content. A general name to identify anyone who specializes in creating any piece of writing is a content creator. Such is what we call content creation. Trust you're noting how I used those words.?

Now, let's think about content (plus the writing).?

???????? ???? ?????????????? ???????????????

We've seen that content is anything written, and whoever works to create any written piece is a content creator in the field of content creation.?

This, therefore, means that there are forms of content. This is where content writing and copywriting come in.? They're both forms of content.?

What then is content writing?

Content writing entails creating text that will inform or entertain readers. Its main objective is not to drive sales even if it might.?With content writing, you aim to provide valuable and high-quality material that will educate or amuse readers.

Clear?

Let's go on now to talk about Copywriting.

???????? ???? ???????????????????????

Copywriting is a form of content which influences readers to take an action to buy a product or request a service.?

It is highly persuasive in nature. It involves convincing readers to buy what you have for sale.?

?????? ????????????????????

While copywriting could inform, give value and educate just like content writing, the end of it all is to cause readers to take a specific action - oftentimes it's to book a call or make a purchase.?

This is why it usually ends with a CTA - Call To Action.?

On the other hand, content writing doesn't do that. Even though you could get some mix of copywriting elements within a good content writing work, the difference is very clear.?

Content Writing educates, informs, gives value and entertains.?

Copywriting could do all of what content writing does, but its goal is to sell a product or offer a service.?

????????????????????

Content Writing and Copywriting are forms of content. That means a content creator could either be a content writer or copywriter or both. However, one thing you should be clear about is what makes a copywriter different from a content writer - the copywriter aims to sell, and the content writer seeks to give educate, inform, give value and entertain.?
