People often think that Content writing and copywriting is one and the same after all both are a writer who writes content used either online or offline. The actual fact is they are quite different though there are certain similarities between the two. But before we see what are the differences between a  content writer and a copywriter, let’s learn the meaning of content writing and copywriting in simple words.

What is a Content Writing?

When a valuable piece of information is delivered with a purpose of attracting potential customers or audience and to educate them about your products, services and brands, it is known as Content Writing. Content writing usually involves writing blogs, articles, press releases, etc. Simply put, Content Writing is all about marketing about your brands.

What is a Copywriting?

Copywriting is an art of delivering words which makes people take some form of an action. It means creating a content copy with a selling point of view. In short, it is a written form of salesmanship.

Who is a Content Writer?

In simple words, a content writer is the one who writes useful content to educate the audience. Now let’s dig a little deeper. Content Writer creates a wide range of content which is usually long and search engine optimized. They make fresh contents such as articles, blog posts, newspaper articles, magazine features, white papers and all sorts of long useful content that revolves around the online world.

Content writers usually craft long form of content pieces which includes more words and are quite detailed. This content helps in increasing shares, likes, interactions and attracting more traffic to the website.

Who is a Copywriter?

A copywriter is the one who writes a content copies which are used in advertising or marketing. Here’s a simple definition: A Copywriter is a skilled professional who helps business to grow and ensures that their content reaches the right audience. They produce copy for web, social media, newspaper and more to persuade a person or group. These content copies are generally shorter.

Content Writing vs. Copywriting

Unquestionably, content writing and copywriting aren’t same though both are a form of content marketing. The only difference between content writing and copywriting is the purpose. One is used to simply inform and educate the audience about your brand whereas the other is used to advertise and market your products and services.

Content Writing is a necessary part of copywriting because you cannot always sell through your words. Today, customers want a thorough understanding of the brand before they buy something. They are aware of the scammy tactics used by the brands to simply increase their sales. Nowadays, they like to do a comprehensive research about the brands by reading articles, blogs on their website. So, unless you connect with them in a right manner, you cannot make them believe and trust in your brand.

With Copywriting, there are numerous things to take care of while crafting a copy. If done perfectly, it can attract good numbers. So unless you’re a specialist in copywriting, content writing plays a part in increasing brand image and attract potential customers.

I always thought they were the same thing so this was very helpful. In all content marketing, the most important thing to know is who your target audience is so you can produce engaging content effectively.

Still think they’re almost the same; a good writer can do both!
