TRYING Season 1 follows the lives of two very likeable, relatable characters Jason (Rafe Spall) and Nikki (Esther Smith) and their journey of trying to start a family. After?a number of?failed attempts at conceiving naturally and with medical aid, the couple lays all their hope on adoption.??

What I loved about this show is how writer/producer Andy?Wolton?has addressed two serious issues- infertility and adoption in a light hearted yet sensitive manner. Every episode of TRYING tries to?showcase?the Adoption process with utmost sincerity. Twists surrounding the legal paperwork, background checks and visits from Penny (Imelda Staunton) the adoption agent will make your heart beat a little faster. Both the main characters come face to face with their insecurities when they compare themselves to other potential adoptive parents.??

Moments of feeling ‘not good enough, ‘incompetent’ when everyone else around you has a happy family can be more debilitating than one can imagine. Right from the word go, you will find yourself rooting for the world and in this case, the Adoption Agency to see the real Jason and Nikki for not just who they are but who they can be- wonderful,?loving?and caring parents.?The show strikes the right chord.?

Sprinkled with moments of laughter and those that will bring tears to your eyes, TRYING makes for an endearing watch.??

To sum it up in the words of one of my?favorite?directors Jim O’Hanlon, “Trying?is for anybody who ever felt slightly not quite good enough." And no guesses there ‘Not Quite Good Enough’ was a potential title for the show.?

Personal Note: I started watching TRYING because I had a few friends who were in?a similar situation?and this show helped me understand what goes on in the mind of couples who have so much parental love to give but no one to give it to.
