Content Marketing: The Art of Business Story Telling
The idea behind content marketing
At the most basic level, content marketing is a strategic marketing and business process that focuses on the creation, publication, and distribution of valuable, relevant and consistent content in order to attract your targeted audience. In other words, content marketing is a way of business storytelling. It's about creating a human connection.
Throughout all of our lives, stories have served as a basis for learning, connecting, and communicating. Business storytelling is similar. It provides an opportunity to align your business and your prospects, and customers and communicate why you're doing what you're doing in a way that appeals to your audience. The best teachers are storytellers, the best leaders are storytellers and the best coaches are storytellers.
Remember, people don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it.
What makes content marketing successful
Before we jump into what makes content successful let's ask ourselves selves, why are we doing content marketing in the first place? Besides the obvious, the best reason to do content marketing is for organic search. Content marketing is a valuable way to earn your audience's attention rather than pay for it. Think of organic search as your KPI for content marketing. Organic search is an easy way to track and relate traffic to your website or content.
Below are three tips for making your content marketing successful:
Similarities between Hubspot Academy and the Sorting Hat quiz
As apart of this week's writing assignment, we took the Sorting Hat quiz to discover which house we would belong to. I took the quiz and discovered I belong to Gryffindor... I'll take it! Although I'm not a big Harry Potter fan, taking the quiz did have some similarities to HubSpot Academy. The sorting hat quiz, among the various other quizzes the Wizarding World website offers, is a form of content marketing. To Harry Potter enthusiasts, this type of content incorporates information and characters from the world of harry potter and adds value to their segment of audience that isn't satisfied with books and movies.
They even write blogs about their new Wizarding World Gold, which is a 12-month subscription that provides access to everything from Wizarding World original content, special edition pins, and exclusive discounts at their stores around the world.
Takeaway
There's a good chance that you're not the only company doing what you're doing. Stand out in a busy digital world like today using content marketing. It provides you the chance to contrast yourself in the eyes of your audience and provide value where it matters.
