Are you tired of staring at a blank screen, wondering what to post on your social media channels? Do you find yourself stuck in the "what should I post about today?" syndrome? I've been there, and I know how frustrating it can be.
But here's the thing: incorporating themes and series into your content strategy can help you consistently generate fresh, engaging ideas that resonate with your audience.
In this playbook, we'll explore how you can leverage days-of-the-week themes, create business-specific themes, and develop captivating series to keep your content pipeline filled and your followers engaging with your posts.
(Don't miss the content creation bonus at the end)
THEMES (DONE FOR YOU)
A fairly easy way to reduce the “what can I post?” frustration is to start incorporating themes into your content mix. Days-of-the-week themes are a great place to start, as they are relatively simple to adapt to your business.
Here are two or three options for each day of the week.
??Motivational or Mindful or Marketing Monday
??Transformation or Tips or Tech Tuesday
??Wisdom or Wellness Wednesday
??Throw Back or Thoughtful or Thankful Thursday
??Flashback or Fun or Fitness Friday
??Shout Out or Style Saturday
??Fun Day or Spotlight Sunday
BUSINESS THEMES (YOURS)
Create a few themes that work for your business. While I don’t use them often, I do have a few in my “idea” vault, including:
??Business Beat
??Content Corner
??Learning Lounge
Feel free to borrow these, while you come up with your own.
CREATE A SERIES
Series can be a great way to create themed content that you can repurpose in a variety of ways.
In December, I created a 12 Days of Content Creation Tips video series on LinkedIn. The series generated a fair amount of engagement—more than one person told me they looked forward to the next tip.
I was also able to repurpose it in several ways.
??Each video became a post for other social media platforms, including TikTok and Instagram.
??The individual videos were turned into a “Limited Series” podcast on YouTube
??The audio from each video was combined into a Content Marketing School podcast episode
TYPES OF CONTENT
When putting together your content marketing plan, consider the 4 types of content, I shared in my last newsletter.
Edutainment
Edutainment videos blend education and entertainment to make learning more enjoyable, engaging, and accessible to viewers.
How-To or Educational
These videos are most often used to teach skills, techniques, or concepts. They're straightforward and focused on enhancing viewer knowledge.
Fun Entertainment
The primary goal of Fun Entertainment is to amuse and engage the audience. The goal is delivering a fun, memorable experience that viewers want to share.
Behind-the-scenes (BTS)
These peek-behind-the-curtain videos help humanize brands. They help form a deeper connection and make viewers feel like they are part of the brand's journey.

CONTENT CALENDAR (MAYBE YOURS?)
Let’s create a quick content calendar using themes and assume that you work in content marketing like me.
And you’ve decided to post 3 days a week – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Monday
Marketing or Motivational Monday, sharing a text post or Slider (AKA Carousel) with tips, techniques, etc.
Wednesday
Business Beat, sharing an article about social media trends, industry news, or maybe AI
Friday
Fun Friday, sharing a humorous meme or a video you created or one you found
Now you have a [Fill in the Blank] framework that you can use to create your posts. It saves time because you already know what your “focus” will be.
Creating a content calendar that runs 45 or 60 days out takes time, but it pays off with time-saving dividends when comes to posting.
Once you get more practice, you might have a simple monthly calendar on a whiteboard, like I do.
GOING FORWARD
Consistently generating content ideas, particularly if you’re just beginning your content marketing journey, can be challenging. ?
The resulting frustration often leads to the “what should I post about today?” syndrome which affects many coaches, consultants, entrepreneurs, and business owners.
One way to mitigate that is by incorporating themes and series into your content strategy.
Start with the done-for-you themes, come up with a few of your own, and throw a series or two into the mix to keep your content pipeline filled.
